    The Running Man

“Hot Fuzz” and “Baby Driver” filmmaker Edgar Wright has made a deal with Paramount Pictures to develop to direct a new film adaptation of Stephen King’s dystopian thriller novel “The Running Man”. Penned in 1982 under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, the book was loosely adapted for the screen with the 1987 sci-fi film starring Arnold […]

Edgar Wright will develop and direct a new film based on The Running Man. The new incarnation is said to be much closer to the original Stephen King novel.

    Obligatory Arnie reference opportunity:

Could be good given how massively different the Arnie one was... I actually loved the original novel.

This is great news. Love Wright and the King novel.

Loved the Arnie version as a teen, but a rewatch as an adult showed how flimsy it is, being held together by pithy one-liners and Arnie's personality.

I've mentioned it before, but the audiobook, read by Kevin Kenerly is amazing. His delivery of the cynical Ben Richards is perfect and is really worth checking out.
Check out this great listen on Audible.com. It's not just a game when you're running for your life. Every night they tuned in to the nation's favourite prime-time TV game show. They all watched, from the sprawling slums to the security-obsessed enclaves of the rich. They all watched the ultimate ...

The lead in this remake needs to be a relatively unknown actor. So much of the novella is focused on Richards and star power would interfere with that too much.

I'd like to read it before the remake comes out. Really like the Arnie one for his cheesiness but really like Edgar Wright so will be curious to see what he does with it.

That's be fitting given the novel was originally released as authored by Richard Bachman so King could determine whether or not his success was down to talent or luck.

Already willing to bet that the remake will have an inferior soundtrack.

Did you guys notice that John over at DF Foundry had the running man playing in the background on this week's direct.

In my mind, I could've sworn Ben Richards was black, but apparently not!

For everyone comparing him to Arnie's depiction, he's not supposed to be a muscle-bound war hero, he's a scrawny man, malnourished from spending his meagre wages on medicine for his daughter and exposure to radiation in his job building aircraft until he got blacklisted.
