Really enjoyed JoJo Rabbit it’s got a lot more depth than I expected too. Queen and Slim was a real standout too. Very tightly focused on the two leads who cope well and the film could have arguably become a bit more Bonnie and Clyde but holds its ground and is better for it.

I really love The Lighthouse but the biggest surprise for me was Doctor Sleep. It's a gift for King fans and Shining fans. McGregor and Fergusson are amazing leads in it and the finale feels right in place by the time it arrives. The Director's Cut is a treat too ... at three hours long and presented in six chapters. So good. Don't Overlook it

So you're saying don't Sleep on it?

There were a whole bunch of films I liked in 2019. I've given the nod to The Irishman (the big dog returns to gangster films - as Jazz might say, it's sumptuous three course roast dinner of a film with all the trimmings), Queen and Slim (cool, satisfying, couple-on-the-run action), Jojo Rabbit (snarky, funny and totally original).

Balls, I've just realised I missed Uncut Gems. Love, love, love that film. Original, exciting, nasty and just plain cool.

Ford Vs Ferrari and Knives Out were both a lot of fun too. It was a good year!

You'd have to be a doctor to sleep out on that movie.

          Did I do it right?
