It wasn't an argument, my dear but an opinion.

    Pardon me for expressing it.

I took around 39 hours to finish it and yes I did use my AGWS I visited the part seller in the elsa AGWS hangar he has the best part for AGWS available. I only used the AGWS when I could not win with the characters. Also if you are KOS-MOS fan you enjoy the ending.

I love Kos-Mos! Man, youve made me really want to finish this again now - all of the best sequences Ive seen so far have involved Kos-Mos, especially the one near the start as the Gnosis attacked.

I'm just at the bit before the final dungeon, but I want to get the best AGWS possible, which costs 300,000G, so I'm gambling myself away at the moment. Typical naughty Japanese-ness that you can get money for the casino tokens

Apparently this best AGWS pretty much decimates the final boss, and it has 6000HP. Oh, yes, baby.

Oh, yeah, I tend to use the AGWS in boss battles (makes them much easier), but I don't use them in the field because of the difficulty of repairing them...

I have just tonight mastered this game, and I thought it was truelly enjoyable. Having missed this thread at the time cause I never had the game untill recently I can now comment on the game!

marcus - Some things I never bother to use or look at , the boost being one, and also the event slot
The boost system seemed to me like it was just a little something extra which you could do without if you wanted. That is untill I fully understood its useage. The boost doesn't necesarrily act as a way to make your characters attack earlier, but more like positioning other characters in the right places for the even slot. say for example the event slot is showing the critical hit slot and it's KOS-MOS's turn and Shions next. I know Shion would then have her turn on the boost+ slot, but I'd much prefer her to do the finishing blow on the points+ slot so that I can get 2x, 4x or 10x the S. Points and T. Points after the fight so I would then boost Jr. infront and there for pushing Shion back into the Points+ slot. It is very rewarding if you can get a grasp on this early on in the game as it could mean big time bonuses and much more powerful characters in the long run.

marcus - The real strength in Xenosage for me is in the characterization. As I mentioned earlier, Kos Mos is a great one in particular, as is the cyborg Chaos
last time I looked Ziggy (I would have prefered he kept Ziggurat as his name) was the cyborg whilst Chaos was the guy in very tight clothes

Ed-Epistaxis - I'm about 30 hours in and I just can't understand why people think the cutscenes are such a problem. If anything, they are a reward
I completly agree. I don't see long cutscenes as a downer on this game at all, same goes for MGS2, I liked them alot.

Ady - I really never wanted this game to be made.

You can't sequel Xenogears, it's wrong. It's like sequelling Taxi Driver, or something.

With gritted teeth I will seek this one out.
Prequal. Even though they say this is a prequal to Xenogears, it is still in no way officially in a relationship with that game. When the time comes for Xenogears' story to take place they won't be aloud to use it and will therefor have to do a 're-make' with totaly different character names and alot more to avoid stepping on Squaresofts shoes. You could then take relief in this but that's your loss

Prof Frink - I took around 39 hours to finish it and yes I did use my AGWS I visited the part seller in the elsa AGWS hangar he has the best part for AGWS available. I only used the AGWS when I could not win with the characters. Also if you are KOS-MOS fan you enjoy the ending.
It took me 52 hours to master it, all sub bosses, all A.G.W.S units aquired and totaly tooled up to deal the **** and mostly everything else. The best gear stuff is found on the dock colony not the ELSA, and as Ed said you can buy like 3 new A.G.W.S units from there one which costs 300,000G and is a brick **** house and has it's own weapons and everything. Only thing is, by the time had done all the side quests and that my characters were stronger than my A.G.W.S'! I moved Shion into the AG05 (best gear) during the final battle and I wish I didn't.

            Talking of the final battle,

I really enjoyed the ending too and KOS-MOS is the balls! Possibly the best ending I have seen while still leaving for an open story. Great game.

Overall I too enjoyed Xenosaga, and look forward to the next installment. Kos-Mos is easily my favourite RPG character of recent years, perhaps since Sephiroph. Apart from the final battle, I did find the game to be reasonably easy, I guess its the way you play the game but I had no need whatsoever to make use of the Frames or Boost and even skills. Each enemy I trounced due to the power of my big hitters Kos-Mos and Ziggy, with Shion as the healer. The next episode is meant to focus around JR and Albedo, should be good.

Sry to bring this back from the dead, but I am VERY late to the party with this game.

Currently played for 14 hrs or so and am upto the part where the Durandal has been taken over by the Military after you explore Kukai Foundation.

Really lovng this so far and can see myself enjoying it even more (especially with the sequel to play next)

My characters are at level 17-18 so far (no idea if they are under levelled or not), but I am struggling with money, never seem to have enough of it when I need it.

My main party consist of Shion, Chaos and KOS-MOS for the most parts but I have been forced to use jr and have to say its looking like he will replace one of my current members as a starter (not sure who yet though)

I haven't really used the AGWS's yet much either as so fa the fights haven't been that hard , bar the

                gargoyle

battle that took me two attempts to do.

Looking forward to playing this some more tomorrow evening and hopefully progressing onto the next area

                  Epic thread necro!

I think I'm about to jack this one in, finally, forever. It's one thing to grind in modern games (not a fan) but grinding in something nearly 20 years old just feels obtuse.

It's led me to think about RPGs in general, and how they can sometimes have this level disparity between the route through the story, and the XP you gain. My characters just walked into a boss fight and pretty much got wiped out in one hit, and definitely got wiped out when the boss casually did the same thing again 4 turns later.

JRPGs are one of the genres that ages the worst, being it in combat desing, level progression, or menus. I trie dto replay Xenogears a few months ago but getting used once again to PS1-era menus is hard.
