Jack Kerouac - On The Road

Stupidly the other day I left "The Great Gatsby" on the plane, just as I was half-way through a re-read. Damn it!

              I love that book.

As for me, right now I'm reading Gaimen's "American Gods" and Pullman's "The Golden Compass."

Just finished The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold which I enjoyed immensely. Right now reading Atonement by Ian McEwan - that so far is just far too slow for my tastes.

Just finished Love All The People - Letters, Lyrics, Routines - Bill Hicks.

We all know he was a genuis and this just cements that, great read, laff out loud funny in places and also very poignant.

They could have done without repeating some of the routines so many times but hey you can't have it all.

If you've never heard or read any of his work I wholeheartedley recommend it, he spoke the truth (whilst cracking you up at the same time)!

First half is very slow and I nearly binned it but was glad that I stuck with it in the end as the 2nd half was very good.

I'm currently reading Mosquito Coast but it's taking me ages as I never give myself any time for reading and I read damn slowly. I've just passed halfway and it is good so far.

I went to a sunday market/car boot thing in Cyprus while i was over there and found a small book stall being run by a little ol lahdaner lady.

I picked up the Nine Billion Names of God by Arthur C Clarke and the misses bought The Throwback by Tom Sharpe for 20p each ^^

Nine Billion Names of God by Arthur C Clarke - it's a collection of Mr C's favourite short stories he's knocked out over they years. Some great stories including the Sentinal, Reluctant Orchid, The Problem with Martian Time and Wall of Darkness as well as many others. I loved Space Odyssey Quartet so i flew thru this, all the stories were wonderful, especially Dog Star, very touching.

I then pinched the Mrs book: The Throwback by Tom Sharpe. I laughed my friggin shades off. Her dad loves Tom Sharpe so thought we'd try it. Very good, i've noticed he has a new one out 'Wilt To Nowhere' but i think i might pick up some of the others he's done. Impressed. Loved the eviction of residents of Sandicott Crescent, inventive.

I've finished Bringing Down The House, a book about a group of student card counters who made millions off US casinos through their card counting techniques and well thought out gameplans. A true story apparently, it's an absolutely brilliant read, dirt cheap to buy also.

Currently reading The Dark Heart Of Italy it's about the dark side of Italy, corruption, collusion etc. It's pretty unbiased but still makes the country sound really bad and I really wonder how they manage to keep all this **** quiet.
