All of the games above made me decide to get the console in question (With the exception of the Mega Drive and the Playstation. They were presents to me as a child from my nan!) or had an impact upon me that I still can't shake.

When I look back at the list I just typed, those games remind me why I love gaming and convinced me to get a foothold in the videogame industry.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Samba yet

My DC games would be:

Samba De Amigo ver. 2000
Space Channel 5 Part 2
Shenmue II (specifically the last third)
Le Mans 24 Hour
PSO ver. 1

Virtua Tennis and Virtual On almost snuck in there, but at the time I didn't play them enough.

My GameCube games would be:

Super Monkey Ball (and the mini game sequels in 2)
Burnout 2 (crash mode)
Wario Ware (just gets better and better)
P.N. 03 (can't handle Joe's heroness)
Four Swords + (again, gets better and better)
R:Racing Evolution (continues Le Mans' perfect arcade/sim balance)

They're all the games that grabbed my attention most at the time, and get the most plays even now.

Cosmic Smash - DC

what did you make of the review? I'm curious as to whether you would have awarded the game higher.

It's ok I guess, I don't think it's a fabulous review nor do I think it's awful. I would have given it a 10 though as it tries something new, the packaging kicks ass, the attract never gets old, the music fits the game perfectly and the aesthetics are gorgeous. The gameplay is simple and pulling off smash tricks is satisfying. I don't think a game needs to last 100s of hours, I like Cosmic Smash because I can finish it in 30 minutes and so is a great way to kill some time or play just before bed etc.

I'm going to update my list with a few more systems.

It's more likely that most of us have never owned those systems.

I followed 3DO's progress via Edge but I was never tempted to buy one cause of the lack of killer apps and the cool stuff on PS1/N64.

I did check out MG2: Solid Snake using an MSX2 emu and I think it was probably impressive for it's day.
