June 2007 Version Update (Rescheduled Date - 5th June 2007)

Thought I’d have a pop at this and create an ‘official’ thread for the forthcoming patch and keep it updated as more information is released providing a focus point for discussions as updates are released.

Date of Update: 5th June 2007

Official Patch Notes:
[Event-Related]

A new Aht Urhgan mission has been added.

A new massively multiplayer battlefield, Einherjar, has been introduced.
Related Information>>

The following changes have been made to chocobo raising and chocobo racing:

1. Players can now request three different versions of their chocobos' daily updates.

- Hear a detailed report:
All cutscenes play while the VCS trainer gives a full report.
- Hear a brief report:
The VCS trainer gives a full report (cutscenes are not shown).
- Skip the report:
Both VCS trainer report and all accompanying cutscenes are not shown.

*Important scenes, such as when a chocobo hatches, will be shown even if a condensed update is requested.

2. Players can now feed their chocobos up to 4 items (food, medicine, etc.) at once. An update on how full the chocobo is will be given by the VCS trainer once, after the bird has eaten all the items. The following is the order in which chocobos will eat items when traded several different varieties at once:

- First: Items that cure status ailments (gausebit wildgrass, etc.)
- Second: Chocolixirs
- Third: Items that affect attributes (San d'Orian carrot, etc.)
- Fourth: Chocobo food (Gysahl greens, etc.)

*Only one chocotonic can be traded at a time. If a chocotonic is traded at the same time as other items, the chocobo will only drink the tonic and the remaining items will be returned to their owner.

3. An issue where the order in which chocobos crossed the finish line differed from the standings displayed after a race has been addressed.

Mog Locker capacity can now be increased to a maximum of 80 slots.

The ability to change your DM earring eh? I do hope they add such an option to the CoP ring and AN earring or I see this making just as many people angry as it makes happy.

Obviously there would probably be a limitation of some kind, maybe a number of times per year you could change it?

To merely win the fight again wouldn't be enough.

Bollocks.

I tell you, the Japanese don't like hard stuff. Many games have difficulty beefed up for western release. They're not as 1337 as people make out.

That's it then, we need full steam ahead for our CoP static before we get **** forever for having 'the easy end of the stick when it came to CoP'. :/

---

Many people I speak to are 0/20+ on some of the battles. I find that really surprising as my worst figure is 3/6 on Diabolos or something like that, and three of those were without stunners. I think the majority of people that play FFXI just generally suck at games.

If they're banning more and more RMT they could actually revert some of the R/E equipment back to just R which would mean lowbie mellehs like myself have a chance at making some solo gil.

Going off of the Pallas/Alky camps that could be a while before it becomes justifiable.

In fairness, the source that I got the CoP information from stated that any changes (and remember anything above, except the official S-E quote is not officially confirmed) would be the further items that weaken the monsters’ abilities and experience points bonuses (presumably to encourage people to repeat missions to help).

My thoughts on the stuff above (should any of it prove to be true).

Sub-weapon slot items for 2 handed users – Not really something that is off benefit to me (Dual Wield 4tw) but it does seem that 2 handed users fall miles behind in merit party situations in terms of parser results (I don’t run a parser myself but have been told on a couple of occasions on things went by people who have and 2handers lag behind). 2 handers get consistently higher spike WS damage (except maybe Rampage) but it’s the time inbetween that seems to let them down.

Einherjar – Could be interesting. Definitely sounds very Limbus like (and Limbus is quickly becoming my favourite event in game). Curious about the Dynamis comparison in terms of item to start it. Wonder if this means it will be a single high cost purchase that is split for everyone who takes part (ala Perpetual Hourglas) or a smaller cost that everyone who wants to take part has to buy (ala Cosmo Cleanse). More importantly are the rewards that will be offered. The Dynamis comparison has raised questions that this could be where new job’s relic will come from but urely there would have to be something for old jobs as well.

Merit Points – the thought of having an increased limit in the skills categories is very appealing. I don’t think they will increase the current cap per skill (i.e. it will remain at 8 merits maximum for offensive skills and 4 merits maximum for defensive skills) but it will mean people can merit more skills. Personally I’d like to stick some merits into Dagger and Marksmanship but my Ninja focus meant I was not willing to do this at the expense of Katana or Evasion.

The new routes to the abj's are interesting hopefully reomvoing the conjestion at kings. The rest is all fairly meh to me...

...be interested to see if the moster arena is tied to any decent reward or another pile of total minigame ass like the chocobo racing.

As for making the game easier, the demand has consistantly been from the non-Asian player base. The game was much tough on first release of all elements, things usch as none of the gay mini SMN battles etc. These were added and devalued the job no end ever since its been a slow decline, I still mss the good old days befofre the MPK patch and xp lower and all the other junk done to make life easier.

Well said. If SE can't be bothered to implement mini-games correctly, they should just scrap them and focus on the progressively fewer things that they actually do get right. The monster arena sounds like something that could be really fun, but if its just going to be AI controlled gaf again, then they can take it and shove it up their assholes.

If I've understood Tsing's point correctly, it wasn't that SE weren't bothered to or couldn't implement mini-games correctly - it was that they were responding to demand for those games to be "easier", and that in delivering it some game achievements were devalued.

The lazy incapable tend to be in the majority. Square has to maintain a delicate balance between keeping the integrity of their challenging games (which has established their loyal fanbase) and creating a product with sufficiently wide appeal that it is economically viable to run.

Yup Hic is spot on is about a balance between accessibility and challenge. There should be some elements of the game that retain their character regardless and should remain hard, same as some items should require the effort to attain them, a prime example would be the THF knife raising it to a 5% drop rate would have been much more sensible than what was done.

The biggest issue right now is end game as now the majority of the player base is in this arena. Many aspects are fine eg. gods, however the king abjurations cause significant grief in the game due to number after versus no of spawns I suspect a new fountain to get at these will be added to ease this but it shouldn't devalue them, we're talking about Koenig Bodies, Dalmatica and the rest after all.
