When Sony first unveiled PS2 to the public it was running an advanced version of GT2. It looked very promising and Sony claimed it would be ready for the PS2 Japanese launch. Come launch day it was not present and gamers were then told that it will be ready sometime around December 2000. Come Dec 2000 and there was still no sign of it, and with Sony sweating because up to that point games for the PS2 were not up to the standard many gamers expected. The delays did not look good.
However in Ap...

DiRT 3 review - Microsoft Xbox360
As many of you know, we're huge fans of Rallisport Challenge 2 on the original Xbox and DiRT3 is similar in many ways. Whilst it’s not all peachy, Codemasters have come tantalisingly close to perfection in this iteration.
The problem that designers of rally games are faced with is that there aren’t that many pure point-to-point time trail rally fans and with previously huge rally manufacturers dropping out of the WRC, an audience must be found to actually make money. DiRT has approached this ... -

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Review - Microsoft Xbox360
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive marks the latest instalment in the multiplayer-focused first person shooter franchise, releasing simultaneously on consoles as well as the PC. The Counter-Strike series has always been famous for its harsh learning curve, a system that over time sees initial frustrations give way to an appreciation of its incredible intricacies, rewarding both tactical play and quick-fire reaction times. In the past Valve have always managed to balance these two elements of careful... -

Idolmaster Shiny Festa Review Sony PSP
Since making its way to home consoles in 2006 on the Xbox 360, the Idolmaster series has seen sequels and spin-offs on both console and handheld. Shiny Festa is the newest entry in the series and, like Idolmaster SP, it's on the PSP. The series is one that always has a small section of Western gamers hoping for a region-free release, so is Shiny Festa worth importing?
Shiny Festa shares two big similarities with SP – they are both on PSP and are both split across three separate versi... -

Ferrari F-355 Challenge Review - Sega Dreamcast
Okay, time to own up. Who of us has ever dreamt of owning a Ferrari? Ah, I see plenty of hands. Who has gawped as a Ferrari slenders it's way past while you're in town? Yet more hands! Who has ever power-drifted a Ferrari out of the Parabolica at Monza? None of you! Well, looks like that is about to change.
Bought to Yu Suzuki and his crack team of coders at AM2, F355 Challenge Passione Rossa brings the power and the beauty of arguably one of Ferrari's finest cars into your home. Based... -

Ryu ga Gotoku 5 (Yakuza) Review Sony PS3
Since the series made the shift from PlayStation 2 to PlayStation 3 in 2008 with Samurai spin-off Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan, this is a series that is now more or less on a yearly schedule. After a couple of mainline entries, a zombie-based off-shoot and a couple of outings on PlayStation Portable, Ryu ga Gotoku 5 marks a return to the more familiar setting and characters. Have we now had enough of Kazuma Kiryu and friends, or is there enough here to warrant yet another entry in the series? ... -

Tekki Review - Microsoft Xbox (Steel Battalion)
The mission brief was simply to get to a checkpoint on the other side of the stretch of water that passes across the centre of the map. The water is definitely too deep to cross, even for the huge mech robot that you are piloting. Looking around, there is a bridge across the water, but you decide to play it safe as you have a bad feeling about this mission. So, after jumping in the cockpit and enjoying the beautiful startup sequence, pressing the buttons in order as they light up in green and red... -

Soul Calibur Review - Sega Dreamcast
The original Soul Edge arcade game by Namco (converted to the Playstation as Soul Blade) was an excellent 3D fighting game, fusing the speed and style of the great Tekken series to a weapon-based system of combat. It carried with it Namco's technical accomplishments and portions of Tekken's combat method, but managed to set itself apart by infusing the proceedings with a thoroughly fantastical flourish - a look that put the player in a mystical world set quite apart from the one we know. ... -

Tokyo Beat Down Review - Nintendo DS
Anyone who remembers "Beat" Takeshi Kitano's directorial debut, Violent Cop, might have pinned hopes on Success's similarly themed Tokyo Beat Down as being some sort of modern day interpretation of the cult 1990 Japanese movie. Several of the characters in this game seem to mimic characters from that film, in fact, with one of the central playable characters the namesake of Kitano-san himself. Unlike that visceral depiction of ultra-violence, Tokyo Beat Down is instead a curious mix of Phoenix Wright-style... -

My Japanese Coach Review - Nintendo DS
It doesn't take too long for an intrepid westerner to discover that Japanese can sometimes seem the most illogical of languages to understand. Indeed, some serious cognitive re-wiring is in order, not to mention attempting to grasp all manner of peculiar grammatical structures such as verb and adjective conjugations, particles and even politeness levels. And that's just for a kick off.
So here's Ubisoft's My Japanese Coach, one from a long conveyor-belt line of language-proficiency softw...

by ArchivesIn this image-obsessed industry, it's critical that a game projects a strong sense of identity. With an identity comes a target audience. Sony have arguably captured the 'twenty-something male' flag and, to consolidate this position, Sony Music Entertainment releases this: a game featuring nothing but scantily clad females. Oh, and some very nice scenery.

by ArchivesFamily reunions tend to follow one of two distinct protocols: everyone meets up, reminisces and has a good old chat and a laugh; or everyone meets up, reminisces and remembers why it’s been so long since they last saw each other, the evening ending in a ferocious argument. Why is this relevant to this Devil May Cry 3 review?
The latest meeting of the divinely comedic twin siblings of Dante and Vergil falls rather violently into the second category. Something about their murdered mother’s amule...-

by ArchivesFear. It’s something that collective consciousness values as a desirable commodity, especially in the pop culture spin of everyday modern life - An element that mainstream entertainment likes to use in distilled form when it comes to getting a rise out of our adrenaline glands. Whether it be watching the latest slasher flick, experimenting with the next extreme sport or avidly reading the current best-selling horror fiction… On the whole, we take pleasure out of being scared. by ArchivesPink Lycra. There just isn't enough of it in video games. So Capcom have bravely stepped-up to the plate and given us a game, starring a Hot Pink hero, clad in a spandex jumpsuit, that isn't afraid to be laid back and humorous in style, whilst containing some rock-solid gameplay at its core. Like a piece of candy with a stone centre, Viewtiful Joe is sweet and tempting to the eye, but underneath is solid rock. Our hero is introduced in the opening cut-scene as a bubble-headed, California-accented Sk8r Boi, o...

by ArchivesCastlevania: White Night Concerto is the latest instalment in Konamis Castlevania series. It is the second title for the GBA, but the first Castlevania game appeared on the NES back in 1987. It is ostensibly a platform game, like its predecessors. Certain things have remained constant throughout the series- in all but a couple of Castlevania outings, the main protagonist (in this case Juste Belmont) brandishes a whip. Secondary weapons are also available. Again these weapons are the same as tho...

For the uninitiated, Super Robot Wars Original Generation Saga: Mugen no Frontier (Endless Frontier) is an action-RPG spin-off from the popular Super Robot Wars series. The player has to use attacks to keep enemies in the air in order to do maximum damage, and string together as many attacks as they can. Timing and knowledge of characters' moves is the key to success. SRW OG Saga: Mugen no Frontier EXCEED is the sequel, and goes to show that a follow-up can be better than the original.
