I'll post this here, forgot about this thread...

And because of the long load times, 'doing a recce' can yield next to no feedback to the player as a straight/quick comparison isn't possible.

Graphically, I reckon this is 'fine'; everything is solid, present and correct and there are some really vast areas with no pop-up (except for one particular stage, IIRC). Some of distances put on the display are huge, rivaling a certain other arcade racer... however, the external and in-car camera seems to put a massive strain on the frame-rate, which jumps about wildly. The PS2 version doesn't seem to suffer the problem but the Xbox version does, badly. The PC version is fine, being the best of the bunch. While the Xbox version is nice and all, if you're gonna shoot for a console version then the PS2 game is the one to go for, properly supporting steering wheel controllers too.

Oh, the Xbox-Live scoreboards are fudged too, with many a 10 second time in first place.
Reading back through the thread suggests some MAJOR problems with the Xbox version but I haven't experienced the specifics problems mentioned first hand. Frame-rate issues relate specifically to external camera usage; I play internally, honest

Me. A webcam and five minutes to spare equals...

        Dicking around in an Impreza

...rar'd up wmv. I thought, you know, someone might want to see it running The banding is the framerate dropping >_<

I love this though, damn satisfying when you get it (almost) right.

              The Xbox version.

edit: I've just realised that the replay stops as I hit the markers; another game bug this, sometimes it stops short and other times it plays the entire replay

MP9? I did it in 'Windows Movie Maker' If anyone can suggest some decent software (any OS), I'll gladly do it again or encode it in a different format.

Very nice! You were clearly 'taking it easy', though - some of those corners could have been given a bit more stick!

That's the first time i've seen the xbox version in action, and even with your cam, it looks crisper than the PS2 version. The scenery also looks to have more detail. What are the loading times like? there are 20-second waits (perhaps longer) on the PS2 version between stage screens.

Aye, taking it easy is about right -- I only had a quick blast like and that time didn't even beat the default which is 3'58, IIRC? There's always room for more stick

The crispyness could be down to the progressive scan on the Xbox and the plasma. The only difference I've noticed is there seems to be 'more' scenary, no popup (except for one of the US stages which corrupts badly). Load times are roughly the same.

powerslide, have you got any times on the leader board?

no - not yet. I haven't bothered checking the boards since i'm nowhere near beating the best times set by the machine. My times at the moment are between the Medium and Pro setting, to give you some indication. And, my brother has just bought .hack 1, 2, and 3, which means that I might have to buy another PS2 if I ever want to play on it again.

i noticed my time on the rally school track, on the online leaderboard, is 13 seconds >_< it is saved like this in my driver profile, so i looked into why it did it.

if you go into the rally school and do one of the lessons on track, say throttle-control or something, it'll record that time. if you watch a replay of the rally school course, you'll see the time you just did the lesson appear as the course record. saving your profile any time after this records the time permanently, for upload to xbox live.

still playing the title on and off though, it's a good game.

picked up the XBox version (again) couple of days ago (only ?15 new in Gamestation) completed all the rally school stuff, started playing properly now and getting into it more than I did when I tried it few months ago.
Happy with everything except the way the back end of the car bounces so much.

Re-read one of my posts from about Sept above and now have done a full u-turn, CM05 has really put me of the CM series and been playing WRC4 more than any other racing games in the last two months.

Plug; fastest stage times site for WRC4/CM05/RBR etc over at www.racing-line.org
