The combination of dull thumbsticks and a machine with only 32Mb of RAM do make FPS a difficult feat to pull off.

Perhaps why nobody has managed it yet.

Killzone is the best so far, but I think it would take a major disaster for Halo 2 not to blow it away on every level.

Just over a week ago I saw pre-order boxes for this game for this Friday and now it's coming out after Halo 2 ft: Judging by the videos I've seen so far, it's looks fairly engaging, but then I'll play any half-decent FPS and enjoy it.

As for the PS2 FPS experience, the Dualshock 2 is my favourite FPS controller, find it much more comfortable to use for extended periods than the other two. Not the most accurate maybe, but I like the way the analogue sticks travel far really quickly.

No, better off playing TimeSplitters 2 if you think the PS2 can't do FPSs.

That's surprising. The PS2 thumbsticks have such huge dead zones at the start and end of the travel. So imprecise compared to the Xbox sticks.

This game has achieved near mythical status. It all started with the murmurings of a Halo killer for the PS2 and then gathered pace with the EDGE hype preview that loved-up the development team.

I get the impression that it will be a reasonable PS2 game but compared to XB and PC offerings it will be very limited in all departments.

I'm busy enjoying Shellshock NAM 67 at the moment on PS2 so i'm more than willing to give this a try!! From what i've seeen it looks really nice, i kinda like the bland browny greyish backdrop!! Feels like a proper warzone!!

I just think its gonna be very average, but with good-for-ps2 graphics.

its gonna be a play trhough once jobby, no longevity

i thought it was rather good, it doesn't really have anything special to explain why i liked it - but it just 'felt' right.

                  Gotta agree.

Isn't awesome in any one area but feels good and nice feeling of immersion with the sound effects etc.

Probably worth a gander although coming out after Halo2 could be a big mistake, as that will surely be taking up all my time!

                    I`ll 2nd that.
I gave up buying ps2 mags a while ago, but after reading this thread i sought a copy out.

I agree with Pirotic, even the thumb sticks have a nice flow of movement.
Sony needs a better fps for its online service and I guess this is it.

My only gripe is the demo seems to have a time limit when in the mag it states a lvl

Just got this today, I think you are both right there is something that just feels nice about it. I do particularly like the whole bombed out look of it all aswell. Then I always have a soft spot for that sort of thing in FPS don't know why.
If I didn't own an xbox then this would be a definite buy. They do seem to have done quiet a good job of making the playstation controller bareable aswell, still suffers badly next to the xbox analogue controllers.
Certainly the first game to bring my PS2 out of retirement for along time.

I thought the 3 characters generally played differently. Quite like the slightly different route you get to take with luger (one of the worst character names ever). Pity they forced you to take it, surely we should be allowed to figure things out for ourselves.
Hope the rest of the game has this balance.

Maybe it is a level! That's all the PS2 can hold in its mem, and there's going to be near-continous loading scenes...

But yeah picked up a copy of the mag myself, i cant believe how bad the writing/quality is BTW, and the demo is better than i thought it would be. Pretty smooth, nice movement and aiming/zooming. The weapons could be fairly balanced for online play if the load reload and grenade chucking times are anything to go by, but that big guys gun is a shocker - way too much muzzle flash.

The OPS2M mentioned the Killzone review was last in last months mag; can anyone give a quick run-down of what they said about the game? If you want to filter it for hype and marketing i wouldnt complain.

I guess i'll get a copy just to see what the hype is, but FPSs dont really do much for me. I was mostly unimpressed with Halo so even if this is a "beater" i doubt it will still be overly exciting for me.

The demo has a full level, AND a time limit.

If you're good enough, you can finish the level in time and get a stats screen pop up. There's a competition in the mag that states that.

After having completed it with Templar, I must say... What the hell are you all moaning about it not being all that good? It's great fun!! The only gripe i've had with it is that aiming's a bit twitchy, but I just tuned down the sensitivity and soon I was headshotting everything with my trusty pistol.
