Dear God, and I thought MGS 2's ending song was bad.

    And I'll still buy a PS3 for MGS 4.

Man, I?m really struggling with this game.

Trying to get it completed before I get stuck into MGS 4 but the combat has me at sixes and sevens. Unlike MGS 1 or 2 when I sneak up behind someone to break their neck I always get caught. I have absolutely no idea what I?m doing wrong. My camo is at 90, I?m walking slow, get behind them ready to press circle (cqc thingy), then they just turn around and see me.

I don?t get it. I even went back to MGS 2 to check I wasn?t going mad. The attacks in that one seem far more concise, whereas here I have to attack at some weird distance to connect.

Greatest tip you'll getfor sneaking in MGS3?

Use the D Pad to creep up to them, you cant with the left stick.

yup, i went through the whole game without realising that.

Alternatively wear the Sorrow's camo.. it's completely silent even if you run up to them at full pelt!

                Ah thats miles better.

Not been caught once since I switched to the D-pad.

I've just started playing this for the first time. It's stunning. "The End" is probably the best boss ever!

It really is, it just gets better and better. It's definately my fave MGS by a long way

yes, its got that badass 80's rambo/predator feel to it, just awesome.

I remember crouching in a bush with my microphone out and heat vision on trying to find the end , and having headphones on in real life, wow what an atmospheric and tense moment that was.

Plus big boss is badass in it. CQC is more evolved and easier to pull off in 4, but people didn't scream in 3 when you slit their throats, hah

it seems so much deeper than 4 in some ways too, you can blow up the enemies food shed, and they'll go hunting in the jungle for food, at which point you could throw some rotten food out you'd had in you backpack for a while, and they'll all start vomiting, or maybe throw a snake or poisonous mushroom out and scare or poison them.. accordingly.

Or you could blow up their ammo supply building so they are pretty much unarmed, etc.

Well Ive got the cube dug out for 1, ordered 2 on JPN (so can play on JPN PS3) and dug the ps2 out again for 3 so I can do the lot as adoring 4.

I had serious problems trying to play 3 on my LCD few months ago and gave up after about an hour (I know criminal) as it was so blurry and hard to see via scart. Does 3 have progressive scan and any better on component or is it just a evil of last gen blurry sd game on a HD telly issue (Ive got a first gen PS2 chip machine that lets me play imports only but its got a bust component port so cant use it).

Finished this game for the first time the other week. Excellent. Took a little while to get in to, as I was used to MGS1 and 2's style, but once you do (and infiltrate the main base I think, I didn't really like the jungle parts (mainly due to the camera)) it's really awesome. Hopefully I'll pick up subsistence soon, as I hear that has a free camera, which definitely should add a lot of fun to it.

                              a) it looks like crap on an lcd, or a ps3 @ 720p even, through HDMI
                              b) no, it doesn't have prog. scan, no version of it does
                              c) yes, its just the SD game on an HD telly issue (sadly)

I played through it on a 37" TV through component cables (along with TS and 2) and they didn't look that bad at all really. Up close they're a bit blurry, but from about 5 feet or so back it looks fine.
