    Final Fantasy 1 & 2 GBA

Arrived today from VG+, beautifully packaged so the horrid card box was in perfect shape. Unusually smart cover art for a US game, absolutely no gratuitous explosions or tacky rendered characters.

I've only tacked FF1 so far, but I'm loving it. Real old school Final Fantasy. Starts with the classic FF theme, and you know right from the get go that this is the way FF should be. Black Mages, Thieves, Goblins, Crystals!

Graphics are pretty basic, somewhat less than a proper SNES RPG, but still pleasant enough not to offend. Animation incredibly simple, but it doesn't matter. The music is great, even through the GBA player.

Would highly recommend this one. If it continues as is then I'm going to be hooked, and then I will have FF2 to play through. Amazing value come to think of it, and a last hurrah for the GBA. My SP is back in use, and isn't it so perfectly formed. Fat boy DS is sitting this one out.

I played the Playstation versions a year or so ago, but am really enjoying this again on the DS.

What line up are people using? I have a warrior, two black mages and a white mage. I like that the second black mage has slightly different stats from the first ...

I have a red mage, a white mage, a black mage, and a thief.

The thief seems useless though! He has no magic abilities at all, and isn't particularly good in battle either. Surely he should be able to pinch things from enemies...?

          They can, can't they?

I'm sure you could pinch loads of potions and magic items in the early FF's with a thief.

I shall be picking this up soon

Listen - beofre the series went pear shaped ........

Game seems ok, not used to this no boss / dead easy boss thing tho. Not sure if I like it, have been on it lots mind but that's jsut coz I've been bored all day and have been making progress.

Been playing FF1, it's chugging along doesnt make it easy on you about where you should be going next and no map makes finding where you are meant to be going (after you figure it out) quite frustrating and dull :P

Still enjoying it so far, it's just FF as it used to be, and I like that.

But the amount of random battles is starting to annoy. Been counting how long I get on the world map before a battle - between 0.5 and 6 seconds. Sometimes more, but rarely. The battles are quick and easy, but still, there's too many of them.

And my thief character is still useless.

Thief seems to do a lot of attacks but doesnt do much more damage than warrior. gets hurt more than warrior. According to the manual thief upgrades to Ninja later on and then can cast spells(dunno the requirements, suppose at a certain level, Mines 34 now and not there yet. Am sure someone can tell what that is

Currently at a stumbling block in

Earthgift Shrine right at the bottom there's 4 rock hard creatures. Have killed 2 then left and gone back to see them still there. The one guarding the chest I lasted ages against the he pulled out thunderbolt which I had no defence against and I died

I've got this and I'm really enjoying it, especially as I've never played FF1 or 2. Not even touched FF2 just yet, and have spent about 20 hours so far on FF1, think I've now got the 2nd crystal (fire one?). I've not played it since getting my DS though, may have to give it a try as I reckon it'll look rather nice on it.

The random battles are without a doubt the most annoying thing, I've had instances where I've got into a battle with every step I took. Very annoying.

Yeah, I'm finding it hard to know where to go next. There is a map though, hold B and press select.

oh really? that'll be like the biggest help ever. Now I just need a weak enemy avoidance kit so I can negotiate my way round

Uhg, Earthgift Shrine was a waste of time. Seems to be just an item farm. Beat 3 of the boss thingies in there only one was worth doing as the chest has a Megalixer in it. Just done the fire shrine bit and now lost again...

Me too. Still not impressed with the amount of wandering required. I've taken to reading gamefaqs to find out where to go next...a little clue or two would be nice.

                            uhg, stuck again

Got the 3rd crystal (well 4th on the screen) from the underwater place now I gotta get a way to translate what that village is talking about. Heard talk about scholars in an underwater place could do it. Only place I found schoars and a library of anytype si in the water dungeon with 20 bloody levels and a stupidly cheap boss encounter. Ruddy Omega took ages to kill and I went back in like a tool to double check the library and now ShinRyuu is taking the mick with his Flare nonesense. Grrr

Anyway stuck. Prolly gonna have to reosrt to GameFAQS for a guidance coz Getting Metal Slug Advance next week when it goes on sale for 20 notes. wuwu!! so wanna get this and 2 done.
