I have been playing Mario Party 6 for a few days now, and thought i would give you guys my impressions.
First off the single player mode
It has had a bit of an overhaul (again). This time you play a mini board that has an action on every square. So you may get a 2VS2 minigame a 1 on 3 a battle or some form of action. The action (moving about the board) is fast and the games are short due to their being no computer players to battle (apart from in the mini games). The mode is fun (for a bit) but is rather shallow. But as you should know by now Mario Party is all about multiplayer.
Multiplayer (party mode)
In MP6 we see the return of the item shops now called orb huts, as well as two orb spaces on the board where you can grab a random orb on your way past. Some of the games new orbs include a thwomp (stors a player moving past that square)and a zapper taking 5 coins of a player per square they move past the zapper.
This time around the way you use your orbs/items has changed a bit. All items are placed on the board, (apart from mushrooms)once placed they turn to a picture of the player who placed them. That player is then uneffected by thir own placed orbs, and if they land on an orb square of their own they gain 5 coins rather than three.
I have only had the chance to play 3 of the 6 game boards and they each seam to offer a board twist.
One board, the star stays in the same place the whole game, but the cost changes between day and night, you can also buy upto 5 stars at a time on this board. The major flaw in that board is all the players race to the middle then keep going round the middle bit (where the star is).
Another one of the boards had Donkey Kong giving out the stars, however each time a star is won he swaps over with bowser who takes a star off a player if you land on the star space. He then swaps with DK again. All over the board you have ? spaces taht swap over DK and Bowser.
The other board i tried out was a nature themed board with a huge tree down the middle of the board. This time the star moved about the level like in the previous games, the level is a bog standard level.
As well as the standard 2v2, 1v3, duel, and battle minigames this time we also have mic games. These are always 1 v 3 games and the single player takes the mic.
The mic games range from simple fruit calling and direction giving to controling huge machines and firing an array of weapons. Being an american game and me nor any of my friends being american i thought imay have had a slight problem with the voice games not understanding me. However i am yet to have a problem and the same with my male friends. My female friends are another matter, the game has mistaken banana for orange and the number 6 for the number 8.
Aside from the mic minigames the normal minigames are a lot more fun (IMO) and we have some diffrent ideas as well as some returning favourite formats with a lick of paint.
Overall if you are after a fun party game to play with your mates look no further than Mario Party 6 its by far my favourite in the series (i have owned them all) and the RRP of about ?25 with the mic is great value for money.
It also works fine with the Freeloader
If you are looking for a fun/lengthy single player game then forget it.
