    I see.

They did a pretty good job then. If the controls had been a bit less twitchy on the pad it would have been a real classic.

Like with F355 you need to play this with the Wheel, then it spot on. Still a great game, that was amazing fun online (sometimes no lag at all).

It just never had the control or AI of the Arcade, Saturn AM#2 original

I can understand the disappoinment over the game not being a rails shooter, but I think it's better than most are giving it credit for. Not game of the the year or anything, but a solid action title. I've only played through the first eight missions on easy, but have enjoyed them so far.

Most of the on-land environments are large with plenty of topography. My only complaint is in the single-player using the landscape doesn't provide any real strategic advantage. The larger buildings in Corneria: War Comes Home could provide some great sniper vantages, but the missions are loosely timed and it's generally easier to go for the target objectives and completely ignore the enemies. Maybe on harder levels this isn't true.

The Arwing sections are good, including the "all-range" ones. The station in the Orbital Gate: Incoming mission isn't just a background or set piece. Rather, it's nice and large object in the level, requiring you to fly around and through it, making for a neat sense of scale.

The on-wing sections are an interesting rail-shooting addition. They're short and sweet. But I don't know that they really add anything to the game.

The on-foot controls are great?the only thing missing is a quick 180 button. Fox moves so fast on foot that crossing a level isn't tedious. The Arwing is pretty much the same aside from some button arrangement. And the Landmaster controls and shoots just fine.

        Things I don't like:

        - Missions are loosely timed.
        - Slippy.
        - Only being able to cycle through weapon assortment one way. [reading the manual helps.]
        - Grenades don't explode on impact.

        Things I do like:

        - The scale and topography of the environments.
        - The alternate map view.
        - Fox runs faster than Ben Johnson in the 1988 Olympics.
        - "Battle of Endor" amount of enemies.
        - Multiplayer is fun.

This thread is 17 pages of guff and speculation and 2 pages of first play. If that.

I'm probably way behind you all here, but for those of you who are disappointed with Namco's new addition to the Starfox, AND haven't played the SNES Starfox 2: http://agtp.romhack.net/starfox2.html

I'm not bothering to get a Gamecube... I cannot justify it (not least as both Starfox games are, to be frank, poor to average), but Starfox 2 fully makes up for this if you ask me.

i picked this up yesterday on the cheap, from John Lewis in Glasgow. and i have to say despite the initial headf*ck of the on- foot sections thanks to Fox running like he's permanently on fast forward, and having to reconfigure the controls about 3 times until i was comfortable - it's pretty good as stupid blasting fun goes. it looks and sounds great, with a genuine sense of scale in the Arwing sections and some pleasing design during the onfoot sections.

but it does have it's faults, such as the Landmaster control - i'll *ahem* master it eventually, but on the first few plays it was frustrating watching my supposed Machine-o-Death bumping into the walls and having a turning circle of an oil tanker

i can see me finishing this and playing again, but it will probably be just the Arwing missions. it's by no means a bad game, just not as good as it should be but worth getting if you see it cheap,
