The GameSpot review consits of two things:

"Its too hard, it is a great game but it is too hard"

      Well boo-****ing-hoo you twatting muppets!

      Jesus...
I cant believe these people write reviews, this is why I'm so ****ing sick of forums and reading/talking about games online cos this attitude prevails.

When I got the game I stayed in the first room and learnt the system, how to dodge, when to lock-on when not to, when to break off attacks, how to level-up styles etc. I started out completely rubbish at the game - I'm not instantly good at anything, it takes me quite a while to learn stuff, but instead of blaming the game and crying about it look to myself to improve.

Because of this during normal mode I died a grand total of 0 times, then went on to finish hard in around 5 hours and only used 1 Gold orb and am now playing Dante Must Die over 90 hours into the game and have no intention of stopping till I've got my fighting down proper! The game is not hard, it wont attack you without telling you it's going to attack you first, all that's expected of the player is a little training, get to know what's what so that you dont have to think and you're in for one hell of a ride!

Its all because he cant just pick it up and complete it in one sitting like a lot of games around, the general no brainer of a game i mean.. It has a old school feel about it where you need to learn it to get the most out of it .. Some things are just wasted on the gay fat yank reviewer's like him

Was almost sick when read there review!! DMC1 was such a triumph because it rewarded the persistent, skilled player. DMC2 failed because it forgot about its roots. DMC3 is kicking all sorts of ass because it builds on 1's system. The combo / skill system is there for a reason, this boy obviously failed to notice this while his ass was getting smacked all over the place!!

Much the same reason why Ninja Gaiden was binned by many gamers. DMC3 is deeper than Ryu's adventure and the combat system (from what I have seen and played so far) is the best a game has offered to date!!

Been waiting a while for a game to top the entrance of Nelo Angelo in DMC1.. only DMC3 can do that!!

Don't be so silly. Gamespot is a site used by all types of gamers - they can't write reviews just for hardcore gamers. I can't say if the Gamespot score was fair because I haven't played the game. But I found their review very informative, and I'm sure a lot of gamers who either lack skill or time will have appreciated it also. I have a job and a family, and if I put 90 hours into DMC 3 I would not get to play another game till August.

And be careful saying how DMC 3 is really not so hard when all you've played is the Japense version which has infinite continues.

In relation to difficulty if your aiming to get the best grades on each mission then continues will have a dramatic impact on the grading, so in that respect the Jap and other versions will be more or less the same on that issue. (You'll only be using continue's on your first play through, because after that you should be semi comfortable with the game and going for grades to not use them or if yuor just mucking about/trying stuf out. I can see if someone wants to learn bosses patterns quick may be an issue but saving up and buying yellow orbs for the boss fight would sort that out no probs, all in the planning ).
This is the type of game that rewards you for repeated play and investment of learning the system, levels, atack patterns, exploits etc, so if anyone?s expecting a pick up and be instantly good at it game look elsewhere.

The game is challenging! It's not as hard as DMC1 IMO. If you want an easy game, buy DMC2!

The last paragraph sums up everything for all those who are still wondering whether or not to get this.

I think people are being too harsh on the Gamespot review. Remember that the US normal = JPN hard and therefore starting to play the game for the first time on what is essentially the hard difficulty can perhaps be a little overwhelming.

I prefer very hard games myself, especially when the fundamental gaming system is as sound as the one in DMC3, but it is a fact of life that many people have demanding jobs/lifestyles that take up a lot of their time, and hence they don't have enough time available to spend perfecting a game's system. For these kind of gamers, an easier difficulty setting really should be available (and the US easy = JPN normal). A truly well designed game will provide difficulties for gamers of all (or most) skill levels.

Nevertheless I do agree that he spent a little too much time ranting about the difficulty rather than explaining the finer elements of what is the best action game combat system to come along in years.

What are you doing in an Import videogame First Play thread then? O_o

I have a job and a very demanding girl, but if you love a game then you gonna be playing it for months (when and were you can). I foresee the same amount of months going into DMC3 as did with VJ. Just because it challenging shouldn't put you off unless you are happy to just pick it up, pretty much watch it while you push a button every now and then...where's the fun in that - or maybe its a failing in my character that I like to get punished over and over until I own!!!

DMC 3 is released in America this week and it's only $40 at Best Buy, so that's why I'm in this thread. I don't mind a challenge - I just don't like to have my time wasted. If I can get yellow orbs easily enough so that I can use them on boss fights then I should enjoy DMC 3. But I still don't know for sure how much effort it will take to stock up on yellow orbs. So I'd buy the Japanese version if I could. You know, the version this web-site's review said was almost perfect.

I have just finished a 2 hour stint with this game and in all that time I've been messing around in the first two or three missions replaying them over and over again to try and get a better ranking. Cerberus is pretty cool. Surprisingly my favourite style so far has been Royal Guard. That first mission is very small but so addictive IMO. It's the one I've been spending most of my time doing. I mainly use it as my training room to try out different things(it's where I picked up on some of the visual cues for attacks that Saurian was on about a few pages back).

It was definitely worth the wait(thanks play-asia ) though. I can see myself playing this game for hours, and that's only the first mission I'm talking about

The music hasn't really annoyed me at all, which is surprising since I'm not into that kind of stuff. Can't wait to get some more playtime in.

Ok guys shall we get into the tactic phase of this thread..

                              Boss strategies,

I can cane most of the bosses just have some trouble on some of them(Ogre, cerburus)
I think I got Nevan down well, if your using rebellion, my tactic, brief **** rushed rundown : always stinger up to her when she's standing with her bats around her, then proceed to combo till a marker comes, usually it's "hows this (is it she says?)!" first the sideways blades, which you no-lock walk around then counter, then she either mainly fly's about then throws them electric bats at you, gun dodge phase, listen for "get ready" when hitting her, which is that spining circular attack which is a must avoid her most powerful attack!?, shoot while this goes on then stinger straight after it into comboes,
she's still for a bit you can pummle her and if you've hit her a lot before then her guard will break allowing for more chunkier damage/hits ^_^,
then you listen for that weird sound that tells you to dodge the black orb that gradually goes outwards, you repeat this then she sometimes throws out the electric attack beams, you can roll or non lock walk about, key is the big orb sign posts,
oh and the kissing attack is a must avoid (only comes when she's low on health) too since she can replenish energy but it's slow so easy to avoid.
Bit of a rushed type up there my excuses, but thats the jist.
I'm still learning the game so anyone else with good strategies, meths, comboes here's your turn. Cerburus and Ogre mash up meths would be good

We all know the games good (well those playing it) so time to make this thread more useful no?
(If Saur gets typing expect some TACTICS! 0_o)
