Trickster pwnz Vergil - stick and move with Rebellion to beat him at his own game

    Comment

Trickster's good but if you really want to own Vergil, use Royal Guard. You can beat him in around a minute with practice.

Maybe one day - but like I said, I'm lost without my aerial raves, air-hikes and flail-about-like-mad cerberus attacks, I 'd be stuffed if I didn't use swordmaster.

I've never played DMC before, will I be able to pick this up or will I be overwhelmed?

Nah, you'll be fine. At heart its just a 3rd person action/adventure game - its just all the crazy peeps in this thread can make it sound like the most insanely complicated thing ever You'll pick it up in no time.

Just be prepared that it does seem silly hard for the first hour or so, but once you get your head around the basic flow of the game you'll start making some progress.

Its a great game. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I played through the first DMC game on easy with rapid fire option on and did Dante a huge disservice - the punishment for my crimes? DMC2!!! Obviously had to bring it this time and stay away from that Easy mode Basically what I'm saying is I didn't have any skills when I start DMC3.

Initially its a tough bastard of a game and I think most players get to Cerebus (the three headed dog boss) and start to feel the frustration. Obviously when a game buss that on you its your job/duty/right to come back with mad skills and make the boss cry like a little girl! Any frustration should be quickly replaced by joy as you earn new skills, try new styles and pic up new weapons. You shouldn't feel too overwhelmed as these treats are nicely spaced out giving you time to get a feel of each ability before a new one is introduced.

Trust me man, its worth at least giving Dante a shot and he's as complex as you want to make him

Normal-Hard Difficulty lvl...I didn't feel any difference at all...

Then came DMD mode..lol...If only all games are this hard. Well, I suppose being hard is one thing. Giving the player OPTIONS to deal n pawn the hardness is just a matter of good game design. This is the area DMC3 truly shines in.

But I do agree...for ultimate satisfaction...using Royal guard against bosses is the way to go...suddenly...they don't seem so scary anymore heh. Well, they can still punish you for the slightest mistake. ^^

I think the best thing about this game is how 'customisable' Dante is. You can try to play DMD mode in so many different ways based on style n weapon combination...it's too cool. Each time I finish DMD mode, I go back..n keep experimenting all over again...I suppose eventually, I'll grow tired of it one fine day..but hell, it's been great these past 100-sh hrs. Thanks CaP~

It's as complex as you make it. Anyone can play this game but the most fun comes from learning the game mechanics to a tee and then applying them to totally own the bosses!
Just take a look at the vids posted to see what I'm talking about.

WTF is up with Dante... he just cant leave me alone. I got this back from my mate earlier in the week and had only touched on a couple of bits since then, BUT last night I opened up new levels of skillz never before imagined. Up until now, Rebellion with Beowulf or Cerberus has been my bag but how the HELL did Agni & Rudra fall off my radar... Swordmaster level 3 with them and Rebellion is a wet dream!! The aerial **** I was bussin had my jaw on the floor.

That really is the measure of this game, that after 41 hours(official clock time, **** knows how much Real time), it can still amaze me!! My plan was quick hour practisin on bosses... 4 hours later the Boss pwnge and DMD mode crackin was SUPERB!! Currently trying to best Cerberus on DMD... ANYONE who advances past mission 2 on DMD has much respect from me, THAT is where you earn your stripes, ****ing nuts!! It had me for around an hour last night, restarting over and over, just so I could get my ass handed to me, but thats why we love it, it raises the stakes just as much as you do... eventually, I broke its back and it.... felt... gooooooooooooooood!!

My Royal Guard is now a force to be reckoned with and Mission 20 boss (Normal) was forced to lick my boots last night... the S rank in that mission providing the evidence!! Oh, and Mission 2 boss on Hard, with Royal Guard fell at my feet in around 15 seconds. Attack at same time on first strike to parry, Release on second attack then open up the pain... repeat... absolutely beautiful!!

Moving on to the Vergil fights next and cant wait to get them down!!

I think it was Venom who posted the vid of Cerberus getting pwnd by Agni & Rudra... well mate, I took your **** on board and am proud to say that dog was seriously bitched last night within 2 "knock downs" he was almost over so to finish his second head off I went to an aerial ballet of A&R goodness, culminating in a devil trigger release all over his face... GORGEOUS!!

Every bit of game time I have now is going right into Dante... he ****in owns me again!! All other games pale in comparison and will have to wait!!

DMC3 is the rockies.... parry, parry.... BUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!

Use Doppelganger with Agni and Rudra and he'll be down in around a minute. That's on hard. I'd say under a minute on Normal.

I possibly had my first moment that makes me understand why everybody froths at the mouth about this.. normally in a hectic fight I'm just in a mad panic desperate for the fight to end, but on mission 15 (revolving tower bit) using swordmaster/nevan/cerberus, I had a fight where at the end of it I just wanted more!! I seemed to be jumping off spiders and just hanging in the air with nevan... loved it!

I also tried to use gunslinger for the first time, can anyone explain to me how to get the best out of this? Cos it seemed to me that a lot of the enemies can block bullets outright, making it totally useless. I couldn't get twosome time to work well either, couldn't keep a lock on the initial target when I switched to the circle button.

                        Comment

Gunslinger is a tricky one and is more for showing off than issuing pain. The best technique for stylee points is too uppercut (relative move to weapon) your targetted enemy into air, keep him targetted, then buss twosome time with the O button by pointing direction toward another enemy... this way you can juggle your uppercutted enemy while getting shots at another. Then break off attack and finish targetted enemy off with melee combo I or II. I have found the style judges love this one

There are so many possibilities with ALL the styles, it just depends on how you fight, how mobile you are, how much air time you like, etc. For me Gunslinger, is best for centering yourself in the given room and performing twosome time, rain storm, etc on all who approach.

Practice your **** in mission 1 a few times then take it forward... Gunslinger looks great when chained together.

This is what I was trying to do, however with me it went like this:

uppercut enemy into the air, hold him there with square button rapid fire, switch to circle button/twosome time -> enemy drops to the ground as Dante starts firing forwards instead of up.

If I tried just using circle from the off after the uppercut, he wouldn't even point at the enemy in the air.

I did find it much easier to S rank the damage on level 1 using gunslinger, because it's easier to hold them off, but the minute you're up against non-reaper type enemies it seems those pistols are useless.

As soon as you have ANY enemy airborne the pistols are essential for juggling and also for allowing you to stay in the air, either avoiding attacks or setting yourself up for your next move. Using Rain Storm (pressing O repeatedly while in air) after an aerial gun juggle and Air hike is absolutely amazing and gets you plenty kudos!!

I think the key to what you are trying is the lock on. Dante is either changing targets through you clicking the R3 stick down or releasing the R1 button, causing him to change his planned pattern. It sounds like accidental pressing of the stick is most likely given you may be panicking at this point in the combo we have all been there!!

Gunslinger is gorgeous when used correctly. I aint even tried some of the **** Dante can do on Level 3 GS with some of the weapons but what I have done so far has been nice.

Rain storm is one of my favourite moves in the whole game along with shotgun stinger... excellent!!

Ahh, clicking R3.. that's almost certainly it. I hadn't even realised that was how you change target ><
