    D1 Grand Prix

I got this today and i've not seen anything about it so i thought i'd post a few impressions. Firstly for the first 5 minutes or so i thought it was really bad, teh graphics aren't great, it slows down sometimes and the animation is a bit on the jerky side, which wasn't a great start.

After these initial thoughts i got down to business and started doing the liscense tests, which i realised quite quickly were pertty hard, at least harder than the ones in GT4. It took me most of the evening to pass them all and get my D1 liscense, so not i can enter the D1GP.

This was where the proper fun began, drift battles with other cars was alot of fun and significantly different from your average car game to be interesting. The comentry is a bit annoying, obviously it would be better if i could understand it, but the action itself was alot of fun, and i'm itching to play again.

So all in all for first impressions the game itself seems pretty ropey, but it seems there is something deep down and addictive about it. I'll give it a proper hammering tomorrow and see how i get on.

I had a quick blast on this at the weekend.. but i couldnt get off the first task
How many times do you have to go around in side that circle? or do you have to build the drift gauge more than say a 1/4

With each of the tests there are a certain amount of 'drift points' that need to be scored, which it tells you before the test. Just look in the text for a number, its usually 40 or 60, something like that. If you spin on a test you fail and if you go off the track you also fail. Some of them later are pretty damn hard, and watching the demo you think 'how can i do that?'.

The menus are easy to naviagate, and theres nothing really hard to work out, i would say its as easy, if not easier to navigate the text than GT4. There is commentry on all the battles as i said, which i obviously can't understand, but i imagine you can turn it off. I don't think it says anything that amazing, but i think it gives an indication of how the battle is going, which you don't see anywhere else. I'll just give an idea of how the battles work, they are the same as they are in the real D1 Gran Prix.

Basically the competition starts with 16 drivers, you have battles between pairs of drivers, which wittles it down to 8, then 4 etc. The battles themselves consist of two runs, one with you chasing the other car, one with you following, the idea being for you to outdrift each other, and stay as close to each other as possible. At the end of this scores are awarded for angle, speed, distance and you get a bonus for being exciting or interesting, ie putting the wheels off the track, being a bit mad etc. If after these two runs the two drivers can't be seperated you have another two runs to settle it. I suppose the only other thing to mention is that like real drift events you only do 3 or 4 corners, not a whole track, although the whole tracks are included and you can time attack them.

As i said before the game is a bit dodgy really, but i did enjoy playing it.

                    Just unlocked the D1GP RX7 on GT4

Might have to give this game a shot, sounds ok, should at least keep me busy until Racing Battle C1 GP is released.
