Well I was curious to see what this game was like as I enjoyed the 2D GBA/PSone iterations of it.
(NOTE: Xbox version played)
I'll try and keep this brief. Its solid, playable, a bit unspectacular, but for ?20 or less its worth the cash.
Controls are standard dual-analogue stuff, the aiming is just a tad twitchy and you cant adjust the movement speed (you can invert the aiming though). Movement is fine though.
Gameplay is divided between several types. There are ther standard 'walk arround and shoot stuff' missions, which are further divided between the 2 main characters - Owl and Raptor. Raptor is the 'walking tank', able to take and deal massive damage. He usually has a selection of rocket launchers and heavy machine guns. Owl is the stealth character. He cant take much damage, but most of his weapons have scilencers and he has a stealth-camoflage (IE Invisibility) suit. Gameplay during these sections is similar to Headhunter in that each character can duck behind scenery and either blindfire or pop their head out for a better look.
Then there are the Hovercraft missions which basically have you racing through a level mowing down enemy troops, helecopters, landminesc etc to get to the end alive.
Lastly the skydiving missions have you freefalling through the air (which actually looks rather good) while taking out enemy paratroopers, or avoiding/shooting down missiles.
So basicaly there is a decent mix of stuff in there and it mostly controls and plays perfectly well.
Nit-picks? Well, the graphics are very rough, you wont have to search hard to find mis-alligned polygons, blurry textures and ocasionally choppy frame-rates. Also the enemy AI can be very dense at times, allowing me to pick off half a squad of men while everyone else stands around doing nothing.
Also level 18 - skydiving mission -arrgghh that was tough. Took me 45 minutes to finish the damn thing.
Also the final battle against the boss is basically...nothing. Well it was just yet another fight with a chopper. In fact there are no real boss battles in the game at all.
Oh and one last thing - getting hit by a missile or rocket in this game is INSTANT DEATH, which can lead to some nasty difficulty spikes during the on-foot sections.
So, not that highly recomended for 3rd-person-shooter fans as there is much better stuff out there, but for anyone who is on a budget, or just plain curious, it sports some good level design and solid controls which should keep you entertained for about 12 hours.
