Yes, there're difficulty settings for the combat and the mini games.

i bought this yesterday and tbh im very dissapointed with it, considering its coming from bioware. its very bland and drab, excellent production value etc but the american voices really hurt its presentation aswell as the generic storyline, looks like im taking this back.

the battle system isn't anything revolutionary either. in my opinion kotor is still their best console game. bioware should just stick with the pc market.

does it enhance the challenge of combat? as i've heard how simple the fighting mechanic can be.

What location have you made it to, if you don't mind me asking? How many minutes have you managed to put into it?

Bland and drab? I really don't think you can have explored this game very much if you think that. And generic story line? I can count the number of RPGs on one finger that follow the same route.

And all American voices? You need to get beyond the village gates.

Played this for about an hour so far and I like what I've seen. The presentation is excellent as to be expected from bioware and the combat is a nice change you feel more involved than in other RPGs, the plot seem interesting although I have only scratched the surface. I'll play this more once i've finished DDS.

im onto the 2nd chapter. i have heard the made up language, tbh the made up language isn't that all great and the american voices seem a bit stupid.
the shmup sections seem very cheap and thrown in and overall the rpg itself i dont find it as engaging or as entertaining as kotor. its not holding my attention at all..so something is going wrong somewhere.

i love bioware dont get me wrong, i just dont think its as high quality as their previous titles. i was really looking forward to this aswell hence why i preordered it and got the limited edition. now its going back for something else today

It doesn't even come close to KOTOR. At first i figured it was because its based on a different franchise, one which just isnt as appealing as lightsabre's and the imperial march theme. but after prolonged play it's actually just not as deep or well designed a game as KotoR.

The good and evil system is now so obvious it might as well just ask you which you want to be when you start a new game, and the story, characters and plot are put to shame by the Mortal Kombat movies :P

Speaking of which, does anybody else feel Jade Empire is a little bit like the horrible Mortal Kombat Story mode in MKeception? it just has that cheap put together feeling to it and doesn't feel at all coherent.

its a shame, i splashed on on the limited edition expecting it to be as good (if not better) than Kotor was, oh well - it'd probably be an alrite game in its own right if it wasn't for my expectations based on Kotor (which would be one of my top 5 games if i was forced ot make the list).

It's got a completely different feel to KOTOR for sure, but I'm glad for that. I have played it through twice now, the second time to see how quickly I could get through it: it took 9 hours.

I think the story is very well put together, completely coherent, and suits the game theme perfectly. I do agree that the shooter mini game is a bit poor. When I saw there were 15 mini games I was looking forward to seeing the different things on offer but sadly it's all shooter (at least anything I've unlocked is). The lack of side games was a shame too - I use to like playing Pazaak, a Jade Empire equivalent would have been a nice addition.

Chapter 2 isn't far enough in to get to the:

                      John Clease voiced character.

( tiny spoiler about character voices ).

I wouldn't say it was the game that had something wrong. I think the problem is somewhere between your chair and your TV.

I would agree with you on the made up language. It sounded like a Star Wars language to me, not at all Chinese and I thought it did nothing but spoil the atmosphere.

But I'm still loving this game. I really think it's a much better package than KOTOR. It probably helps that I love kung-fu movies and so am lapping up the Chinese atmosphere, but I like the characters too, and the combat is fun. The graphics are getting much better now too, everything beyond Tien's Landing has looked great.

The guy who voices Seymour in FFX also does some voices in this game. I just beat FFX last week and I was so happy I'd never have to see Seymour again, only to hear him again now .

I finished the Open Palm ending tonight, and that was a goddam satisfying game. For me it eclipses KOTOR. The only thing I missed was having a lot of options as far as weapons and armor goes. I enjoy being able to buy and sell items, customizing my look and abilities, and I wish you could have done more of that here. But, that aside, JE is a fantastic game is just about every respect. I look forward to going back and exploring the Closed Fist path.

Oh, and might I say, the Jade Golem transformation style = instant Pwnage.
