I bought EpIII today and I'm a few levels in. I won't give any spoilers.

It's fun. Trashy fun, but fun nonetheless.

It is very like EA's Return of the King in terms of presentation, mechanics and feel which means that while sure, it'll never go down as a classic of gameplay and yes, if it wasn't for the Star Wars settings and sounds I probably wouldn't give it a second of my time, but it has got those elements and they crank up the enjoyment levels for any SW fan.

The last Jedi Knight game I played was the first Jedi Knight (Dark Forces II), so I can't compare it to Outcast or Academy.

Of the prequel movies I thought Ep I was ok and hated Ep II, but I've seen and heard enough about Ep III to get foolishly excited and this is doing nothing at all to temper that...

Picked this up on Friday and so far played a good few hours on the Versus mode... only got Anakin and Obi Wan to either fight comp at or play bro so limited to what I can see of the gaem so far. Am off to see the movie @ 00.35 Wednesday night so aint touchin single player till see it, which I cant wait for!!

All I wanted from this game was for the lightsaber on lightsaber combat to look and feel authentic and solid... so far I have not been dissappointed. I have put many hours into fights with the comp and human opponents to perfect my skillz and there is a thin layer of depth to the fighting... there is a block button (L trigger) that, when used correctly can perform various kinds of parries and offensive counters. Most people wont give the duelling in this much thought and will just hack away at the buttons and use force powers... but I prefer a more Jedi like approach... refining my attacks to short controlled flurries, blocking and parrying EVERY move that is thrown at me... ****, I am even blocking Force lightning now!! On the face the system is simple... attack, block and force powers... BUT, by mastering the defensive moves there is a layer of depth to the combat, which offers the player the chance to become pretty ****en good at Saber combat. Lightsaber duels are now gorgeously choregraphed events, which look better than the duels in KOTOR and feel better cause when you perform that parry and counter, it's all you baby!!

I cant wait to get rattled right in about the single player game and see what the Jedi and Sith masters have in store for me.

For those of you who have the game... spend some time in the duel mode and get accustomed to the timing of blocks and parries... with practice you can make yourself as skillful as Yoda with a Saber

So, even though I have only scratched the surface of the full game I have rinsed the Duelling scenario and found EXACTLY what I have been crying out for in Lightsaber combat. With practice, the fights you can get on this equal anything you will see in the films... when 2 skilled players clash at this it is a joy to watch!! Roll on 00.35 Wednesday

Em, Stuart... as you said above, it is all possible and the fights are more than flowing... Firing this up and playing my bro, who has also practiced makes for the best Star Wars experince going!!

We had it on this morning with Duel of the Fates blaring from the stereo... it was simply astounding to fight with that playing and the sabers being deflected and parried all over the place. Clashing sabers just as the music hits a crescendo sends shivers down the spine, I cant prasie it highly enough for what it offers. Put some time into the combat, especially the defensive side of it and you will find a Lightsaber Duelling Beauty is on offer.

Looks like I'll have to put this one in the queue!

Honestly.... get Duel of the Fates pumping out and get intothe duels... I have only played it with Anakin and Obi Wan so far and I just kept coming back for more... it is great fun and feels so good when you deflecting and countering all the saber atacks that are getting thrown at you Yoda would be proud, hehe.

When get the Bonus missions and other duel characters unlocked it wil be great re-creating the best battles from the movie and fighting in new scenarios.

The main part of the single player game may just be 'Lord of the Ring' like hack n' slash but the duels with Jedi and Sith can be fantastic when you use the moves correctly. Favoutite move has got to be a mid combo counter... Block first 2 attacks with nornmal defence, then on the third strike, release block and press it again along with away from enemy as the third attack comes in... if timed correctly you will lock sabers at one side, push there Saber over to the other side, opening them up for an elbow to the face stunning them... bit like the one Qui Gon did to Darth Maul to hit him off the walkway in Phantom Menace duel. When this is all coupled together the duels look amazing... block, block, saber lock then couter he smile on my face every time I pull this off, hehehe!!

There's a bit around the start of the game where you have to take control of a Cannon for some whack shooting section (when two ships are along side each other). Once you have completed this it goes into a cut scene, however you can still operate the cannon during this scene. Anybody else found any bits in the game where you can play around with objects in cut scenes or is it just this one?

Anyways, not progressed with ROTS due to screening tomorrow - got to keep some of it a surprise!!! Good to hear your feeling the duelling action Mardigan8, learning all your skills in Versus mode is a good idea, you gonna breeze through the story mode now.

The droid killing stuff looks like a breeze... block till in range then unleash holy hell with your saber. The Duels are where the game comes into its own. Am gonna play it on Hardest difficulty so the Duels are as challenging as possible. Would prefer less Force Powers being available during Duels and it being settled by Swordplay alone but thats a minor persoal gripe Personally I am most looking forward to the Dooku duel as he is the only true Sith I will fight, Red Saber and all.

By the way... in the duelling mode if both players go the same character player 2 gets a different outfit and saber colour... ALL of the player 2 outfits are better and you cant select them without going the same character... thats is pure crap cause those ones are much better... especially Anakins... he is all evil, with his hood up and sporting a red Saber... playing using that outfit in the duels should be a standard option... it looks absolutely sickening... carrying out an Obi Anakin Duel with anakin in that outfit would have been gravy... real shame!!

I thought you were all about the parry? You can time the block of blaster fire so that droid shots are returned

Didn't know about the outfits, will check those tonight.

All the parry **** I have mastered is in the lightsaber duels... the droid fire still requires some practice as I aint touched the sinlge player game. I am gonna re-do the first level again and again till I have the deflection knocked out though... make it all as stylish as possible. Its easy enough to go nuts through every area and just swing wildly till no one is left standing but doing that means missing out on some great looking action.

Why, oh why, couldn't the better costumes be an option... poor decision, even Obi-Wans alternate costume is miles better!!

                      Re : Outfits.

Check Gamefaqs - Given you ain't touched single player I'd assume some unlocking stuff will be in the offing

Nice idea Yoshi... will give it a try. Surely, something as simple as that is available!!

Well, now I've seen the film and I liked it a lot.

Now I like the game even more...

Got to the final Obi-Anakin showdown last night, but have yet to finish it.
Some of the later levels are quite spectacular.

I unlocked a cool bonus mission too - Yoda vs a load of Clones!

Has anyone come across the sound bug in the Xbox version?
I'm running mine via optical, and it makes a sound i can only describe as digital distortion sound. Only lasts 10-15secs but it's damn annoying.

Aint came across any sound problems and I have played through the whole game...

Ratso, finish the game, there is an even better bonus mission than the Yoda one, really cool. I really enjoyed the game as a whole. The Jedi fights made up for the tedius and boring droid / clone trooper bashing. Each of the duels was fantastic and worked really well with the combat system. Grievous IMO was the weakest fight, with the final duel a standout as the best. If it had been punctuated with more of the soundtrack used in that part of the movie it would have been perfect.

All the duels were spectacular and will be replayed for sure. The non Jedi V Jedi combat was a bit of a let down but the set pieces and boss battles more than make ip for these poorer sections.

Vs mode is great fun and when all characters have been unlocked makes for a great little 1v1 side game... lots of fun to be had i the bonus missions aswell.

Have seen the movie twice now and just want to see it again. A great end to the saga!!

Played the opening section (up to the duel with Dooku) last night and was not at all impressed. (Xbrixk version here)

The opening levels were certainly dull as hell....wander along killed a few droids. Stand still and wait for some droids to come and be killed - repeat and rinse.

Not a fan of the controls either - too many different combinations going on it all feels rather clunky. Lacks the fluid feel and sense of weight behind the weaponry of the EA LOTR games which it so blatently cribs.

Graphics are a bit lacking too...

The duel with Dookuwas a bit better but I've yet to feel a great deal on control over Anakin...it all looks somewhat more impressive in the film

Still I'll play on for now....if only to see if they have captured the NOOOOOOOOOO moment!
