    Namco X Capcom

    Pronounced Namco cross Capcom.
Picked this up last week and got a free soundtrack too!
The game itself is basically a turnbased adventure game with action elements.
You start off controlling the 2 main guys (forgot their names) and you come across lots of other characters from popular Namco/Capcom games as you progress through the game's story. You can control these character at specific points.
The action parts of the game work really well allowing for some great looking combos, but do require practice to get the best results.
The game however, focuses a lot on its story so you will be missing out on a lot if you can't understand Japanese.
All in all, a solid title. I hope it gets released in the west.

I've been dying to play this since I saw the videos. How does the combat work? It looks like time-based with timed presses to continue combos.

Woohoo my copy finaly arrived this week and I just started playing it tonight, like venom says, it is extremely text heavy (no english whatsoever), so importers beware! That said, gamefaqs has some excellent menu and interface translation guides, but your still going to miss out on all the story. I really hope this gets a western release!

The game is basically a turn based tactics rpg, which follows two characters called Reiji and Shaomu, like any other tactics game; each unit or character (some characters are paired and move/attack together) has a point count, which is used to limit/controll their movement/attacks in each battle. Each units starts with 10 points at the begining of each battle, each movement turn deducts 1 point and an attack turn 3 points, points can be regained through a successful attack phase. If a units points are below 10 at the beggining of a round it is unable for that round, its points will increase by 1 point per round untill its total is above 10, at which point it will become active again.

As soon as you choose to attack another unit on the grid, the game changes into a 2D battle mode. In battle mode you are also given points for each character which basicly controll how many button presses you can make in the attack. If you have 9 points you can make 9 button presses which can be used to chain together a 9 hit combo, or a 3 hit combo and a 6 hit combo, or whatever you want. A 3 hit combo being something like "Up + O, Down + O, Triangle", although the combo system still confuses me a little.

Not had alot of time with it so far but so far so good! The 2D sprites and animations are fantastic, and the battle mode adds alot of enjoyment to what would otherwise be your standard tactics formula.

A week passed since I've started this game so here's my two cents.
Conversations are quite fun and each storyline of each series links well to one another. Lines have been dubbed only during the loooong prologue (five I repeat five chapters of prologue) but this is balanced with full spoken (I'd rather say screamed ) animated fights.
Famitsu's reviewers have shown complaint about the difficulty setting, too low they said, which is definitely true if you stick to "people" like Demitri or Kos-Mos but it's rather false if you try to level up Momo and Shion or the two Rival School teachers.
My complaint goes to the cast instead, which features characters I love but at the same time lacks others who HAD to be there, like everyone from the Resident Evil / Biohazard franchising, or the Devil may Cry one, or the Onimusha one. This has given me the impression that once again Capcom is milking its product as they have done up until now.
That being said, the game features a revolutionary combat system that got me hooked for days, two useful and always available tutorial and traning mode, plus a well thought set of winning lines for each character.
I'm around 20 hours of play and still at chapter sixteen: as far as I know my money haven't been wasted

Thought i'd resurrect this thread. Been hoping to give this game a try, looks fantastic. Is it worth ploughing through without any knowledge of japanese or is not worth the bother?

I had a brief go of this before more "pressing" gaming commitments lured me away - I was enjoying it a great deal, but I kind of got the impression that much of the game's depth was lost on me not knowing any Japanese - if, for example, there was anything to be got out of performing the combos quickly or precisely, I couldn't tell ....

i went through the whole thing without understanding very much of it.

its very enjoyable if your a big fan of the characters involved, but as a tactics game it seems quite simple, and its very easy to go though the whole game with very little trouble. its all about the fan service really....but i liked it.

Well i'm sure i'd be ok sussing out the battle system, there's always gamefaqs for that. It'd be a shame not to understand the dialogue though.

There's translations for chapters 1 to 6 on Gamefaqs, does this cover much of the game?

Didn't get past the first hour or two as it happens.

Thought I'd update though as I just found out today that a group called transgen are doing a translation for this one, in case anyone else was actually wanting to play it. There's a link on wiki - at the bottom of the page.
