    Midnight Club 3 - PSP

This arrived today and I've had a very brief go on it, I'll post some more in-depth thoughts when I get chance to really get into it.

Now, I've played a friends copy of the Xbox version and I think that my first impressions of the PSP game have suffered because of that. Yes, I know that you can't really compare the two versions due to the differences in power etc, but the fact that Rockstar Leeds has attempted to cram a home console version onto the PSP rather than take advantage of the PSP really stuck in my mind during the first half hour of play. Load times are another issue that really stuck in my mind - nearly 60 second load between garage and city, city to race, completed race to next race. You even have to wait 10-20 secs switxhing between cars in the garage. This isn't something you can sit down and have a 10 minute blast with IM(early)O. Controls are also a little twitchy, but after extensive play no doubt I'll become adapted to it.

Having said all of the above, the game is technically excellent. Rockstar Leeds have managed to produce some excellent reflection and particle effects on the hand held, and the game does compare pretty favourably to the PS2 version. The few races I've completed have been fun and highly enjoyable, but the sense of speed is debatable - again, this is likely due to the fact I haven't played it enough to get the speed of the cars up to scratch.

Like I said, I'll post some more well-thought out opinions on the game after I've clocked up a few hours play. Like a few other PSP releases, I have the feeling that this will be a very good little title - but severely hampered by load times.

The load times drove me mad this morning.

I even thought about selling it straight on after half an hour of play due to the fact I was watching the load more than actually playing the game.

After 3 hours play I've got used to them - but only because I've been playing it with the TV on in the background! If I was playing it on the train for example, I think I'd get fed up pretty quickly.

I have got kind of used to them but it gets to the point where I am listening to the drive noise to make sure it hasnt frozen.

Apart from that its a great game.

Played this some more whilst watching Live 8 and it does get better.

I made the mistake of playing it with the sun behind m and its difficult to make out the route but when you can actually see the city it makes more sense.

The graphics are very good for a handheld and whilst not exactly up to Ridge Racer quality or speed they portray a living breathing city really well.

I was going to sell this on but something about it makes me keep on playing.

Thanks for this guys. I was asking for someone's opinions of this game in the General forum.

By the looks of it, seems like I might find it frustrating (I HATE loading) for the reasons described. Perhaps I'll wait for a few more opinions and maybe even wait for a PAL version which MAY be released with better load times........

The game does suffer with atrocious loading times but when you actually get to race it is a superb port of the PS2 game.

I find myself strangely addicted to it.

I'm really enjoying it now, the loading times are incredibly annoying (bit of an understatement) but I think the game is worth waiting for - great fun to play in short bursts and it looks amazing. Always helps to have something to show off the power of the PSP!

The thing I'm most worried about with regards to laoding times is how they'll affect Rockstars upcoming Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories....

TBH, Sony need a system seller bad enough to let shocking load times slide on GTA:LS... pray away :P

This game shipped out for me today! Really looking forward to it. Load times sound bothersome, but i will live. Quick q though. I have never played a Midnight Club game before. Is it like NFS:U?

                    Thanks!

                      Same kind of game.

You cruise round a city looking for races to upgrade your car.

Last night I played it for two hours straight.

One of the problems I originally had was that I was playing it in daylight which made actually seeing the routes very difficult.

Once I started playing it at night it really came into its own.

                      A damn fine game.

Yes i recieved the game and it is awesome.

However mine came without a manual? Is this normal?

I ordered it from play-asia and are trying to sort out how to get one as i like my games complete, and its annoying having no manual.

                        Top game however.
