I picked this up today and have played it for about 3 hours after taking a break from DMC3.
It basically plays like Dynasty Warriors. The combo system is very basic but doesn't really need to be complex for this kind of game IMO. The square button is used to pull of a string of attacks. The triangle button activates a special move which can be switched between 2 using L1. As the game progresses the number of special moves that you can choose from increases. Finally, you have a Basara (Super) move. Your character can pull this off when the Basara gauge fills up after killing a set number of enemies. So by combining regular attacks, special moves and the Basara move, you can pull off some amazing looking combos with no hint of slowdown.
Also, the character design is brilliant! All of them are varied and are fun to play with especially the samurai in blue whose voice actor (I think) is the guy who does Mugen's voice in Samurai Champloo!!!
All in all, a very fun hack and slash game!
