The widescreen mode is just like the normal cube mode. All they have done is stretched it in game instead of you stretching it on your TV. There is no extra space at the side of the screen as you would expect in a proper 16:9 mode. This should be obvious when you don't have it set to widescreen mode it runs in a letterboxed format. If it was gonna be proper widescreen, surely normal mode would run in 4:3.

I read over at EG that it was true widescreen (I'm using a 4:3). Hence the confusion.

I think people are just assuming it is because it has a widescreen on/off option. But it's not.

Can some one tell me what the Extras are? After talking to a friend today he said there was 5 hours of Ada missions. But the Cube one had something in that area anywayz?

So I was wondering if they have just added a small amount and claimed it to be 5 new hours of Ada missions, or is it somthing else?

There are five new Ada missions called Separate Ways, along with Assignment Ada and Mercenaries.

I've got the PS2 version and oh yes, This game is excellent. Sod the difference in graphics, it's all gameplay. Some genuinely nervy moments in the game, and I always seem to be running low on ammo.

As per usual, sniping people with a headshot from miles away is great fun (as it is in any game) and running up to them and just blasting their head off is cool too.

              Loving it.

Still seem to have a crap component picture on my sony plasma, it just can't handle shades of black.. Bastard!

                Re4

Greatr game indeed-playing it through again. Havent done that with a game in YEARS...

Strange-I never even came close to running out of ammo...try headshot-kick-slash with knife while they're on the floor

                Saved me tons of ammo.

Right. I'm properly into this now. I've already completed the GameCube version more times than I can count, but I wanted to see what the conversion and the extra parts were like so I'm now seven hours in.

Very impressive stuff - reminding me why Resident Evil 4 is in the top three for this year.

Hate to go over old ground here.. But regenerators are cool. Espcially when I dismembered one of them, decided to walk over to it and it jumped up and attacked me.. **** myself.

I'm with you Concept, I've completed the GC version plenty of times but wanted to see what it was like on the PS2 as well as the extras. I think I forgot just how much I enjoyed it on the GC though so it was great to be reminded just how good the game really is. I'm hoping the extra Ada missions will be interesting too. This is still definitely one of the best games this year in my opinion.

                          You won't be disappointed.

Completed the main game in two sittings and just finished the extra modes. Capcom have been very generous with the amount of content you get after the end of the main story mode - even more so than the GamCcube version. Seperate Ways is about what you'd expect - without talking about anything specific, it does reuse many of the same environments (being attached to the same timeline), but there are a few new places in there, and some great setpieces to boot. It's also nice that Capcom have sought to flesh out the storyline some more and

bring it back into the series' main history

. That was one of my few criticisms of the GameCube version earlier in the year, and Capcom for the most part, have addressed it.

Also... Saur came up with a great idea a while back... hoping to

see Leon's stolen Jacket later appear on one of the Plaga's infected villagers. He got what he wanted... that's precisely what happens in Separate Ways.

I wonder if Capcom read NTSC-uk.

It's a fantastic conversion... I was slightly harsh on it before, but after the forest section of the first third, it's more or less identical to the 'Cube version.

Simply a pleasure to play, and it reminds me why Capcom are so far ahead of the rest of the field this year (bar Team ICO and Shadow of the Colossus of course).

Just got my Asian Resident Evil 4 today with the flashlight and cool guide book with Ada on the front.
A top little package, all very swanky. Makes me feel better in waiting for this as opposed to getting the tempting PAL collectors tin.

I've already made it clear that I like the port, but I actually found that playing the game through RGB Scart in old 480i looked better than playing the game through Component in 480p o.o Can't quite describe it, but everything looks much more solid in 480i... 480p just seems to make everything looks more disjointed and blocky. It's probably just emphasising the visual flaws already present in the image, but it really makes RE4 look worse.

Give both modes a go, and see which you prefer.

I don't own a GameCube, so this is my first play though of RE4, and I'm loving it. Didn't quite feel right at first. Didn't feel like Resident Evil, but after a few hours of play, everything fell into place and it felt just right.

Only trouble now is those damn Regenerators. They remind me so much of the Heaven Smile from Killer7, which is quite cool, but they're a pain in the arse. Keep getting killed by the same two of them, even after I've got all the gear I need to kill them. Doesn;t help that I don't have much rifle ammo, and that I'm not the best of shots with it. Keep missing and not being left with enough ammo to finish them off.
