Good to hear you stuck with it mate, will pick it up tomorrow and start the painful process of getting over that harsh opening section.

Im still playing this and loving it. only got about 5-6 missions left now.

The missions are getting a lot trickier now, but like Madbury said, they are so fun that i dont mind replaying them.

I think reviews have been a little harsh on this little gem !

Time for a negative opinion I guess.

        *steps up to the plate*

I didn't like the game much at all. For a game that looked high on action in the trailer, the end result was quite disappointing. The game plays slowly, and it's not just the frame rate, you don't feel like you are zooming between lots of traffic, simply because there isn't enough to make it on edge. It was repetitive to a fault, and not the good type of repetitive either, the "I've had enough of this after half a dozen missions" type. The jumping between cars is a totally skillless affair of just pressing the button when you are close enough.

You can't do much more when you are on the car other than simply press the dodge button if you are going to be shot at, or just push the shoulder button as quickly as you can for some painfully slow shooting. You can't even choose which way to dodge, say with the stick instead of an awkward button. The enemy cars don't seem to react to your attempts to barge them into walls, as in, I mean I can't spin them around and leave them behind when I'm trying to get the guy to the airport on time.

The entire game just feels like "do what the game requires you to do to finish the level and move onto the next one" effort, and I was overall highly disappointed (no really). There seemed to be a whole lot more freedom of action implied in the trailer, and the end result was the total opposite. It's like, when you fail a mission, you just do it again and try not to die this time, it's not like you can actually change your strategy on a linear path where you have to be at full speed all the time anyway in order to catch up with your objectives. And it's just not fun

I picked this up at the weekend. Its excellent! Yes its hard, but thank god for that. I'm sick of games that you can finish in a weekend. Luckily its not so hard that its frustrating, although the deadeye missions is a bit of a b'stard and yeah checkpoints at the various sections would be nice (notably car to boat). The frame rate feels good to me and I love the comical interjections from the players. If they do change the US versoin I hope they can do a patch or something - but don't be put off by the difficulty level of this game - its a classic.

          Regards,
          Neil.

i totally agree, i was stuck on the last convicts misson, until i found out the pattern to do it, as soon as i knew what to do, i had it nailed.

The beauty of the game is that you really need to use the judgement bar carfeully and at the right time, and once you've realised that, the game gets a lot easier.

im not saying its not hard, cos i have been stuck several times.

I only got 4 missions to go now - looking forward to being one of the rare few that have completed the game

Glad to hear your liking this, it's an acquired taste. Stick with the Deadeye mission, it becomes much easier once you've got the controls of the boat down. I polished off the Warlords this weekend. Just got the final convicts mission to do now before I get promoted and can get stuck into the remainder of the Vixens and Killer 66. Final Convicts mission is an absolute bastard though.

I see where you are coming from with this, but my expectation was quite different to yours. You're point is valid though they could have put more decision path options in there for the player to make. The most obvious modification would be to make the use of the helicopter an option as opposed to an imposed path. Having said that there is some decision making in there, you have to decide whether it's worth jacking a faster civilian vehicle, which enemies to jump on or take down from afar, which path to take (there are some branches), what order to tackle enemy groups and whether to use your gague as a health recharge or save it for bullet time. It's these little decisions which make the difference between an A and a C rank.

Just out of interest it is worth replaying earlier missions to improve ranks as B and A ranks unlock additional secrets including new vehicles available in Time Trial and Cheats.
