    S.L.A.I. (aka Phantom Crash 2)

I'm a fan of the original Mecha Tournament game Phantom Crash back when the xbox was first released and it's taken this long to get a sequel.

For a 2-3 year old xbox game that wasn't all that brilliant to look at outside it's cloaking graphics its managed to get uglier and has bit of slowdown/frame-rate issues, making it harder to know whats going on, specially when trying to spot Cloaked Mecha.

The controls have benefitted the move the the PS2 pad, now having all 4 attacks onthe shoulder buttons means you don't have to take your thumb off the the aim stick anymore to fire the shoulder weapons, although for some reason they decided to add dodge button's instead of just leaving it as a double tap meaning your thumb must move off the aim stick to dodge... so very stupid.

Story mode, much the same as the original. You join a tournament and beat all the rival ranker's until the boss shows up, A.I. chips talk just as must as in the original and you get plenty of chats and run-in's with the other wire-heads and there a.i. chips off the field. What has changed is the setup, gone is the clean map, instead we get a 3d walk about of a 'network' which is slow and annoying, characters idols are now very, very ugly wireframe models, so no more small anime pics, but they did keep the close up meeting off field with similar art for the characters in the 1st game.

New additions i've seen so far are 'crashers', random(maybe contitional pops) wire-head that break into fighting arena's that can be as hard as the 1st Ranker of an tournament and can easily catch you off guard as they rampage around, 2nd is the newspaper giving you info on main event matches and results instead of hearing 1st hand stuff from other wire-heads like inthe 1st game, i also think there are team events in story mode to, well that what im lead to believe but im not that far in yet. There's now more focus on hit localtion so you can blow arms of other mecha with a new critical like attack as part of the new A.I. chip functions, they've also added triple damage to attacks hitting mecha in the back.

A.I., seems improved as now enemies will go for powerups/heath kits or reteat from battle when heavly damaged. they also attack each other alot more now to.

Sound. yes the crazy j-pop and rock is back, most of the old songs from the original are still there(some now with english and japanese vocals) to be brought from the shop again. But they have toned down some the crazy orchestra music and brought in american-rock.... which is mostly ****.

Multiplayer, not played yet or taken it online as don't have the ps2 network stuff.
Working...
