I read the reviews as well, but when I went back out because I'd forgotten to get the wireless adapter, it was there just staring at me.
It is a LOT better than the reviews state, for a first football game on the next gen it is more than adequate.
Obviously the graphics are phenomenal, that goes without saying. The commentary is great as well. Some of the sections of the game when played close up are the nearest I've ever seen to a real football match in a game. The replays are so realistic sometimes they are scary. I'm one of those people who don't think we'll ever get realistic faces, but this is as near as damnit and it's only a 1st run of next-gen gaming!
I've actually only experienced one annoyance so far, and its a rather large bug in my opinion. Beckham scores, and later on I decide to mix it up and sub him off. When the game is over, the replays of the goals put the substitute skin in the place of the actual goalscorer. I thought it was a one-off but twice now it's happened, once with Beckham (subbed for wright-phillips and it showed wright-phillips scoring when it was beckham) and the second time with Rooney, subbed off and Defoe brought on.
The only other let down is the old-fashioned "lobby" EA sports LIVE area, there were about 8 of us all trying to work out how we play a game, then I figured it out, silly really!
The gameplay is pretty much Fifa 06 but faster, more fluid. It's not the same Fifa I'm used to, it's better. Same controls obviously but, well it's hard to put my finger on it, the gameplay just feels so...right. Its exactly how football should feel on a console in my opinion.
So, those who might have bought it but were put off by reviews, don't be. Its a very enjoyable game and its my most played 360 title thus far.
