    Galactic Civilisations 2 (PC)

    Boxart

    Release Dates
    Out now

    Synopsis
Galactic Civilizations is a turn-based sci-fi strategy game set in space in the 23rd century that puts the player in command of an interstellar civilization. The player must explore the galaxy, colonize new worlds, and interact with up to nine major alien civilizations (and dozens of minor ones). Through economic power, technological strength, military might, or diplomatic skill the player must bring the galaxy under their control to win.

    Think Masters of Orion.

Being a PC game and all they're a bit high res to post here. I suggest going here:

Get the complete GalCiv II saga including Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords, the expansion pack Dark Avatar, and the newest expansion pack Twilight of the Arnor!

This has completely snuck up on me. Only found out it was out off someones blog. The predecessor to this game was fantastic. A really engaging turn based space conquer the galaxy style game Masters of Orion style.

It was let down a bit by really (really) plain graphics but was playable as hell.

This has smartened things up a hell of a lot but I don't feel able to post impressions yet as I only downloaded it this evening (you can download it or buy the box).

I can't say I'm surprised no one else is playing this but hey ho. Played a good long session of it last night. Very very deep. The interface is slightly clunky after coming from Civ 4 but the gameplay is engrossing if amassing fleets of starships is your thing.

Its also got a good dose of Douglas Adams style humour.

Just got this after loving the first.

        This improves in every way.

        Really addictive stuff.

The ship builder provides endless hours of fun - that could be a game within itself.

If you don't mind poor graphics but you want a relatively simple yet engaging turn based strategy game - this fits the bill perfectly.

I've dabbled in this a bit, but I can't commit full time to it as I've also just started playing Civ4 (For the first time in all my years of gaming I've been bitten by the strategy bug).

From what I have played though, I love it to bits. I'm even running the GalCiv II desktop theme

Graphics in games like this aren't really a factor to me, but I have to say I do really like the visual style of GalCiv II. It's kind of chunky and lovable.

Now it's available with the expansion pack, Dark Avatar (which can be an entirely new game altogether by the number of things it adds to the game, but not everyone out there is called EA), which further enhances the experience.
