Quick Wind Waker Question

Just a quick one if anyone can remember:

Just arrived the Dragon Island from Windfall Island without completing any of the tasks that I understand can be done. I collected the Tingle and that was about it.

My question is, can I later return to complete these tasks when I have completed this Dragon Island? My boat is telling me I need to get a pearl first so I cant sail back anywhere?

Yes, once a number of obligatory quests have been completed you'll be free to sail to your heart's content.
