    Sin Episodes : Emergence

Just been playing this for a bit, in good and bad ways it is virtually anothe level of Half Life 2.

It feels like HL2, it plays like Hl2 and it looks like a ****ter version of Hl2, the enovironments are are quite low poly and the textures are bland.
They've plumped for your character not talking and all the other characters standing square infront of you and talking at you. The enemies also behave the same as they did in Hl2, its scarily similar.
Yes I know its the same engine, but at the moment it feels like a mod , not a whole new game

Bugger, I was just about to start the very same thread!

    Anyway, here's what I wrote:
    ----------------------------

Unlocked on Steam just a few hours ago, and I'm finding it quite good so far!

    Quick impressions:

Big breasted nemesis Elexis Sinclair returns and she's bouncier than ever, as do Blade and his trusty sidekicks. The story picks up shortly after where the first one left off eight years ago, and it's clearly inspired by the character driven gameplay of Half-Life 2.

It has a new feature called emergent AI which scales the difficulty according to your performance. Seems to be working nicely but may introduce difficulty spikes if you land a few quick headshots unknowingly.

Plenty of guns with secondary firing modes, grenades, and some form of "power" bullet (for want of a better word) that kills anything in one hit.

The levels are of the linear variety but overall very well designed, I haven't had a single dull moment and the frequent COM with comrades has kept me focused all along.

Performance wise it appears to be more demanding than previous SOURCE games, though I'm playing with detail on max at 1680x1050 with a 2.2GHz A64, NV7800GS system and it's smooth even during the most intense firefights.

I've been playing this too. I wasn't sure if it would be any good, but for $20 I figured I could afford to take the risk.

Well, to concur with what others are saying it is indeed just like more Half Life 2. Only, a crap version of Half Life 2. Visuals are desperately mediore and frankly dated. The Source engine is lacks most of the modern bells and whistles but Valve hid it well with HL2's art direction. Sin doesn't seem to have any art direction so looks rough.

And to play... well, it's a by the numbers FPS. Entertaining in short bouts, but it's not going to set the world on fine. I can't imagine I'll be buying the next episode, well, unless this one managed to get massively better by the end.

Only real good points are the character models for the hero characters. They're nicely done. The soldier drones are pretty poor though.

I cant bloody play this game!
It stutters like mad on my PC. Just been reading up about it and apparently it's all because Ritual are using the Feb 2005 version of the source engine, this was before the stuttering bug was fixed in the latest version.
Ritual have acknowledged it though and are now working to implement the latest source version........
        Buggers.

I've been playing this for most of today and although it feels a bit more basic than Half Life 2 I've gotta say i'm still enjoying it.

Quite simply it's a FPS, and nothing more. Story seems ok and as for compatibility i'm running it on a XP2800, 1.5gig DDR400 with a 9800pro, maxed out and is running perfect

Cheap, and Cheerful seems to be summing this one up.

I've put around 6 hours possibly 8 in at the moment and although i'm still enjoying it I'd love to meet the people who tested this and said it was ready for release...they should be shot!

So far i've been stuck in a wall twice (When this happens you can't move, can't do anything at all apart from start an old save game)

I've had the glitch where you've gotta put a command into the launcher (Without giving too much away you'l know when/if this happens and it's well documented on the game's official forums)

Ah well, I only paid $19.99 through steam so it's not as if i've paid a lot, but if I wanted to be a beta tester I'd apply to be one!!

Out of curiosity what difficulty level did you select to finish it in 5 hours?

I'm in the Supremacy Tower at the moment getting the **** kicked out of me (that'l teach me for cranking the difficulty up). The AI's starting to kick in now and after me thinking i'm clever with the headshots they're starting to give me the beating I deserve

Had a go of this today to test my machines rebuild and its not that great tbh

Graphics wise its quite nice but not as nice as I would expect from games nowadays, like others have said it feels like a cheap HL2

I had it set as default. It does peak alot in the supremacy tower, theres a particular area which frustrated me a tad, was when your in a sort of storage area. you have like a million soldiers constantly jumping out of roofs, usually the heavy duty gatling gun guys. my fault really for using the magnum and getting headshots all the time.

Zero9x - Yup know exactly where you mean, royal pain in the ass. I moved the difficulty markers to the centre on my game (Seriously wish I hadn't now because of....well you know what happens at the end!)

                      Oh, Finished it!

Yup, I'd personally say there are 3 main levels to the game and in all fairness even with the difficulty quite racked it's still taken me around 6ish hours to complete.

$19.99 well spent, but personally I wouldn't fork out a penny more for it. Role on Part 2
