    TimeShift Demo

    Just played this....
oh dear, not much of an improvement over the PC demo I played a few months ago

Graphics are a tad better now, but it suffers weird slowdown when you fire your gun, the controls are confusing and the Aiming is the worst on any console FPS I've played.
Some diagonal movement is always useful when aiming, but Time**** seems to of neglected it.
The whole demo reeks of a post Half Life , Half Life wannabe. It feels like some amateur expansion pack. Nasty

Why do games that have the manipulation of time as a feature get it so wrong? At the start of the demo, there's some fire you need to get past (although it's not obvious and I spent ages just wandering round the first area). Touching the fire means instant death (and I don't mean your health decreases, I mean instant death. Mort. Kaputt). But apparently by stopping time you can pass through completely unharmed.

Funny, I didn't know stopping time also meant stopping heat.

On the plus side, the magazine itself isn't half bad and has made many improvements from the early issue I bought. It features quite a lot of stuff you wouldn't expect to find in an official mag, such as a feature on how to access Japanese and US market place content, a moan about the high price of 360 games and criticism of its US sister mag for scoring FN3 a 10/10. It's not Edge or Games TM, but it's not a bog roll substitute that most of these magazines are.

But if time was stopped your clothes couldn't burn and the molecules that are vibrating causing the heat would be standing still. Technically it would work (i think)

Good point, but if that is right then when you pause time you should freeze to death as any ambient heat that keeps us warm would disappear?

I'm not sure if I'm convinced that the developers thought of it in the same way that you did. It's not an obvious solution to the puzzle.

Anything inside the suit wouldn't be affected so you would stay warm providing the suit was insultating you.
Doesn't explain how you can fire bullets out of your gun though, surely they would just stop in mid air?
This is such a geeky discussion, it needs to end. :P

I couldn't find the right bloody button to stop time for starters, did my head in.

The way it switches to 3rd person as you die has something horribly quake 1 about it too.

                  Timeshift Demo (the remake!)

WOW! I will start off that three letter word, very very impressed. I know the developers of Timeshift took a year or so out to re-develop this game and that time they have invested has certainly paid off. The timeshifting powers you have at disposal are brilliant and each has its own very effective use. The stop time one is my favourite! A few of enemies in your way?! Just pause the time, quickly take their guns off them, un-pause time and blast them away. It is done brilliantly, I took the gun off one enemy, unpaused the time and he was like "where's my gun?" Great moment! The slow down time power is useful when you have enemies shooting at you from a distance and the reverse time is handy when you want to "un-break" something They clearly have thought out how the timeshifting powers can help the game along (puzzles etc) and not made them just some tacked on thing. One example of that in the demo is when you stop a pipe moving so you can create a passage for yourself and another when you stop the flow of electricity over some water so you can get across safely. I also love how by pressing LB the SSAM chooses the best time power for the situation. All these powers don't make you invincible though (I died a few times) as using the time powers too much can leave you exposed at times as the powers take a bit of time to generate back. Graphically it is no slouch either, the rain effects are lovely, lighting is good, environment is destructable and character models are decent too. Looks lovely when you pause time and take a look around you Very good demo in my opinion, shows off the game and its strong points. Oh and the demo ends in a great way........

I agree. I wasn't sure what to expect after the horrible original game but the devs really should be applauded for admitting they got it wrong first time and basically re-doing the game.

I think the demo is really really nice looking and the time powers are well implemented and used. Its not gonna set the world alight but its still looking good for the full game.

While I applaud the decision to rework the game, I have to say I'm on the fence. The time powers seem like an original addition to a fps, especially the rewind one (although slow is just bullet time, and that's been done more or less to death in every single modern day fps).

Reminds me alot of resistance too which although isn't a bad thing, some more originality would be nice in this respect too. I will be watching out for more previews with great interest

I liked and disliked this one.

Weapons, setting, enemies, time powers all felt excellent but the aiming just felt completely wrong. Kinda floaty with a slow acceleration.

Not sure if its a game killer but certainly hampered my enjoyment of the demo.

Didn't mind this, but I don't think I'll be buying it. I liked it at first but I couldn't even be bothered finishing the demo tto be honest. I felt I died to easily, the powers were nice but I've been absolutely spoiled by a game like BioShock just getting everything right.

It's not bad per say, but it's not great.

                          Sound was great though.

I thought it was pish, this seems to be the first example of a poor next gen first person shooter.
There was 1 thing in particular that REALLY annoyed me.
You are a man who can control time at will, you see a friendly get executed in front of you.
Ok I say to myself I'll just rewind time and shoot his executioner in the face before he kills him.
Rewind : ratatatatatatat . The guy doesn't even flinch and continues to pop a cap in that poor guy's head.
Well that was crap, got myself killed and checkpointed
I'll slow down time and shoot him in the face, maybe I can't kill others whilist reversing time, seems logical.
                            SLOOOOOW MOOOOOO : RATATATATATATAT
Doesn't even blink, BAM the poor soul get's given a new orifice in the back of this head.
OK so I'll stop time and shoot him instead, that has worked on several enemies already.
The motherfecker doesn't even acknowledge the bullets in his face, despite his face being covered in blood.

                            Shocking.
The game keeps telling me I can slow down time manually then steal the guys gun, so I thought I could maybe steal his gun before he executes him. Nope, doesn't work either.
What a wasted opportunity, there were numerous opportunity were saving friendlies would of added something a little different to the mix, for instance the bit where you rewind the walkway exploding, it would of felt 200 times more gratifying if you were able to rewind time and then pause it , move those 2 guys to safety, then watch it explode.

This genuinely did piss me right off, instead of use the concept to create something original , they've used it to create a work of mediocrity.
That is before I even get started on how piss poor the game looked; like Perfect Dark Zero with the colour drained out of it and where some rogue painter decorator has run around coating everything on earth with 18 layers of clear wood varnish.

This bit did seem totally out of place. It's like why set up a situation where a guy is pleading for his life only to not be able to save him. Seems like very poor game design. Surely one of the devs must have found this strange.

Apart from that i thought it was ok. The enemies seemed quite aggresive and there's a good mixture of destructable scenery in the mix.
