It was dead easy to make just about every pod level crash by inventive flying.

I just played this through in two days (over the weekend).
It's okay. Thats about it. The level design is such that it's SO linear you can't really get lost apart from those damn pod levels which are novelty at first but then they KEEP using them. They are horrible to control, boring as hell and just ****.
You're invincible no matter what difficulty you play on which makes the whole game pointless because you can just literally run through it with no consequences. It has numerous annoying points where there are snipers you can't aim at quickly enough so you die/respawn/die/respawn over and over.
Ending...what ending? Jesus, talk about cop out. Then the bit after the credits? Oh great Prey 2...
It was a free rental so I finished it anyway but there is no way I'll be even slightly interested in Prey 2.
Interesting concept that became annoying quickly but was underused anyway. To be honest this game was just boooooooring...Last edited by Jebus; 04-02-2007, 12:01.

I just completed this. What an odd game.
By turns inspired and utterly mediocre.
The gravity switches were great and coupled with the portals led to a great feeling of disorientation. When you were chasing Jen towards the beginning of the world I thought all that worked quite well.
And I quite liked the spirit thing - but then I'm a sucker for the whole "do things in two worlds" type thing.
Level design was so linear it felt like an on rails shooter for the most part. And the pod things were just annoying. Weapons were weak. Nothing had any weight.
The whole thing felt like the design team had run out of inspiration after the first third.
Still I kept playing. Mostly because it was an easy way to wind away some time I guess. Like watching a ****ty film - you know you could be watching a classic like the Godfather but sometimes all you want is a Carry On.

I really feel the game is under-rated.
My brother had this and only lasted about an hour, I played on for longer but really enjouyed it. The big problems are the same looking levels, limited AI and plain guns but I enjoyed the concept and loved the atmosphere of the game.
In essece it's one of those games like Killer7. High concept but dosent manage to pull it off succesfully. Still enjoyable though!

I finished this recently, and I concur with most of the comments. By turns meh and then wow. But mostly meh.

I feel this game is underrated too. Feels like a late 90s console shooter in a lot of ways. It has that slight naffness about it.
I was still gobsmacked by the first hour though. Yeah, we know Portal is probably going to handle its level design more intelligently, but that didn't stop Prey from stunning me during its opening. It's when you get used to its bag of tricks and the action becomes repetitive where it starts to suffer.

I think it lost its focus when it became more detached from the pursuit of the girlfriend. Chasing around after her dangling from the metal thing crying for help made it all feel quite... connected. In the middle you lose her and it all goes into big empty spaces and starts to feel, well, empty.
Its kind of like Ico without the girl - it wouldn't have the same atmosphere. And Prey didn't.
Maybe I'm just a sucker for damsels in distress

I bought this a few weeks ago and have been playing a level here, a level there. I finished it this weekend. I pretty much agree with most of the comments here, overall I'd say it was a good game, but it doesn't have enough of the "wow" moments to elevate it above good. I did enjoy it though.
I think the thing that really lets it down is the whole being unable to die thing. When you reach a boss or are involved in a big all out gun battle in other FPS games, you're on the edge of your seat because you know that if you die it's back to the last checkpoint. That tension is totally removed in Prey because you know that if you die, you'll be carrying on from exactly where you left off.
Still good though, I'd buy a Prey 2 if it came out. If they can get rid of some of the repetativness and come up with some more clever uses of gravity and the transport portals, it could be a very good game.
