First of all you only get to play a singles match in this demo, you can play as HHH or Kane. Now onto the game, I am not a huge fan of wrestling games, but I do not mind playing them if given the chance. The character models in the demo are very nice indeed and move more realistically than previous incarnations of the game. The main changes are found in the games control system, will not explain here as you get a short tutorial on them in the demo, and they do have a slight learning curve. On a lighter not the commentary from Jim Ross and The King is hilarious, stupid but hilarious. Overall, Can't give a complete good or bad on the game as the demo is just one match but from what I played I liked the game so heres hoping the full game is good.

This is absolutely brilliant, big fan of wrestling games (as detailed in the news thread for this game in the Headlines forum).
I was hoping it would be more Day of Reckoning than Smackdown but it seems to have merged the two together (bit more Smackdown emphasis). Takes a bit of getting used to with the right stick as a grapple coupled with the face buttons (running grapples are interesting) - hope you can adjust the sensitivity of the reversal triggers ala DoR though in the full game.
Not all controls are obvious, some things I have found:
Remove turnbuckle - go to it and push A.
Put laying opponent in sitting position - double click Right Stick.
Put laying opponent on their feet - click Right Stick.
Drag laying opponenet - hold click Right Stick.
Irish whip - RB and A.
Strong Irish whip - Hold RB and A.
Other little things like run towards the ropes and push A to slide right out, or toward an opponent and push A to get round the back of them fast. B button breaks a pin up (great if you're playing Dirty) - but the only prob I've found so far is you can't seem to break submission holds - that's going to be fairly crucial in multiplayer so hope they add that in, anyone know if there's a dev forum about for this? I can't seem to locate one.

I've always enjoyed wrestling games, and have longed for a title that mixes Smackdown's trademark glitzy style with the old AKI games' deliberate pace and punishing moves. Going on the demo, this appears to be just thatThe new right analogue stick control method could take some getting used to, but fortunately the option exists to change back to the traditional control method.
Graphically this is excellent, the character models in particular are fantastic but it's the new touches that make this stand out, in particular the 'move control' activated by clicking the right analogue stick. Being able to hold someone up in a chokeslam, walking them around the ring than planting them with a satisfactory thud just feels so good, as does holding Triple H up in a powerbomb position then walking him to the ropes and slamming him to the mat outside!
Wrestling titles always come into their own in Multiplayer, and i can see this being excellent in this respect.. the game just seems so much more solid and satisfying than earlier Smackdown titles.

Really enjoyed that. Very nice new system.. little fiddly at first but the environmental grapples smashing kanes face into the side of the ring as fast or as slow as i want then pedigreeing him through a table only for him to be busted wide open made it all that much sweeter.
I only really play wrestling games since the N64 WCW quality versus like so cant wait to give this demo a go with a mate. Once the ladder/TLC matches are in there it'll be totally awesome.
alas the commentary is as bad as it's always been... JR contstantly whining about ' how much these superstars give of themselves to be where they are ' ...joy.Last edited by reektan; 28-09-2006, 21:31.

Oh my god this is actually quite good.
Stamina bar = great
Small reversal windows = great
Slower gameplay = great
Those 3 things alone pretty much fixes the problems that every wrestling game I've played since No Mercy had. They've all been too fast, has overly excessive amount of reversals to the point of silliness and had stupid things like getting up straight away after falling off the Hell in a Cell or taking 3 seconds to recover from getting busted open in the face.
The controls are still a bit of a mystery to me at the moment but this is good stuff. I love being able to set up a table, hold people in the air, walk to the table then chokeslam them through it. Technically it's decent at best with mostly the same animations as the PS2 games and the graphics aren't THAT much better really, but there's some nice little touches like HHH getting visibly wet when he spits the water out and blood actually dripping down thier face onto the mat. I dunno if i'll spend ?40 on this, especially since I swore off THQ's wrestling games since Day of Reckoning 2 but I might go and trade in some old Xbox games I'll never touch again to soften the blow.

Been a while since i played a western wrestling game, Yukes smackdown games been **** for years, all eye candy no substance. From the 1st go i've feel the same with this, almost... i can see they've slowed it down and the wrestler sell alot(to much, even after couple of holds it took way to long to stand up and it got annoying) but the control system is just to much hassle, nothing seems obivious, im gonna have actually use a the tutorial mode for wrestling game(the shame, and thats coming from someone that worked out All Stars3).
I also didn't like the replay stuff on the finisher moves, way to much cutting to different camera angles and the speed of Kane chokeslam combine together so you miss the impact.
