Absolutely not worth a purchase especially if you have the originals on PC and can use a controller. As Dogg Thang mentioned the more modern lighting actually makes it harder to see and i feel a lot of modern games go over the top with lighting with areas where you cant even see the textures in corners as its so dark. The original TR is all beautifully lit and the camera is farther away showing more of the environment and i still think the best levels are demo material for how to design a 3d platformer

Also the Automatic camera that the originals had is massively underrated. It always centers and the very few times it doesn't you just press R1 or the look button. Its also more level with Lara and it allows you to focus on playing. I'm a bit surprised that so many games these days use a manual camera as TR'S camera would work better with so many games. Perhaps holding R1 & L1 together to allow you to look behind the character. I found myself constantly distracted by having to use the 2nd analogue to keep positioning the camera making it more of a chore to play the game. I swear its laziness by the devs. Or perhaps its fairer to say game development is so long these days that they don't want to take the time to implement one?????

Iv also always used the D-Pad playing the old TR games and sometimes i think that's why so many people struggle with the controls as they are trying to use the analogue which the games wern't designed for.

The textures also popped more in the originals as they cleverly used 1 light colour and 1 dark colour together to get the texture to pop. If you look at the great wall early on its cave wall textures are a combination of black and white or blue and white. The Egyptian levels use yellow and black and the same approach is used in 2 & 3

I must admit i miss the save crystals from the PS version of 1 as the 3 TR games are just too easy with save anywhere. TR2 i finished in 3 days back in 1997 as it was save anywhere. TR3 brought them back and actually allowed you to collect them to use for later but the transparency effect was gone although that wasn't a massive deal. The TR1 crystal transparencies wern't on the Saturn version as the Saturn struggled massively with 3D transparencies.

I still love all 3 but 1 for me has the best levels. TR3 might have been the best if they had 2 years to make it instead of 1 and spread it across 2 disks. TR2 had a few brilliant levels like Barkhang Monastry but i'm not sure if its better or worse than 3.

Id love a remake of Anniversary righting all the wrongs like putting back in massive chunks of the game that they cut out and bringing the colour back aswel as extending her breath underwater. I will never forget how looking forward i was to falling into the giant underwater chamber with the 2 Sphinx statues on Sanctuary Of The Scion only for it to be removed for a loading corridor taking you down to the area

If you are playing through Tomb Raider 1-3 on the Epic Game Store, you may find it is a little different to other versions.

That seems weird. Were they just able to push out a patch sooner there?

Yep, that’s one of those invisible keys I mentioned.

You can see it if you zoom in on the tweet, but yeah you can't exactly do that in-game.

And to make matters worse for me, I was playing through it on my Steam Deck. That key is not an isolated incident. There are more hidden keys and even huge wall switches that are almost impossible to see in the remastered graphics.

Interestingly, I'm in the Venice levels of TR2 and it's kind of the opposite. If you remember, TR2 introduced flares and so has many dark sections by design and the other thing they do is light pickups with the lighting in the area (in TR1, they're all bright I think). So in many places in the early TR2 levels, the area is actually easier to see with the remastered graphics.

That key placement/lighting is absolutely bonkers.

Honestly I had kinda thought for a long time this would be bobbins since it was being done by Aspire. As a longtime Mac user I've had the 'pleasure' of playing their Mac ports of popular games a few times over the years. Always half arsed.

The disappearing keys issue has been fixed, Dogg Thang will be happy.

Has everybody tried turning Lara gold?

Yes, it’s great they’re improving this. I’m now in the later parts of TR2 and, overall, I’m finding the visuals better than TR1 although I still end up switching between old and new in places.

Gold as in on the big hand?

                          The Hand of Midas?

I remember the original animation when Lara was covered in gold and being so frightened as Lara gets consumed by the gold.

I really miss the early generation of PlayStation, where all games went 3D. I was so frightened renting Resident Evil for just 3 days, I didn't get past the opening few rooms because of the bloodshed. Tomb Raider was even worse, as the world was so spooky and lonely. Very few games scare me now but that 16-bit to 32-bit jump was such a dramatic change in visual atmosphere.

I finished Tomb Raider 2 last night. That game is a mixed bag for me. Some wonderful design - the Temple of Xian is such a challenge but really enjoyable, for example. But the oil rig and ship levels, of which there are several thousand, really bore me. The locations in this one aim to be more realistic which means, firstly, they're dull and, secondly, they don't have the polygons to actually look real so, for me, there is more of a disconnect than when they do the big open abstract ruins. I also found the human combat a chore in this one. Still, overall, it kept me going to the end and those last few levels are great.

I'll park this now rather than going onto 3 though. Another one would be overkill.

I knew you'd all know without me spelling it out!

Yes, the hand of Midas was such a memorable moment and it was brilliant because the developers knew we'd try it and had an animation ready.
It's where I learned about the sword of Damocles too.

                              So, TR2?
Where is the current location of the butler in your game...?
