    Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

Capcom's single player MOBA-like with a Yokai theme, given barely any advertising and also put on gamepass (where i'm playing it) so would likely damage steam numbers to... at least unlike Exo-Primal a similar capcom game sent out to die, it won't rely on a multiplayer playerbase.

Game plays from a diablo perspective which can be brought in a little closer to the action, where you will escort your priestess to the demon gate at the end of the stage, to do this you have a daylight cycle to plan your defences like repairing spirit walls, loot items (for crystals, buffs or healing potions), clean up pockets of nastiness and save villagers to be turned into your mini militia using crystals to make things like melee, archers, and debuffers. once night time comes either from wasting to much time during daylight or by manually fast-forwarding time the demons pop out the gate and make there way down 1-3 lanes towards your priestess.

The combat is very smooth for the main player character, using the old-school dynasty warriors Light and Heavy attacks, where inputting a heavy attack into the light attack chain produces various AoE attacks like dragon punch to hit air born enemies or large frontal slash. So far i've also been given 1 slot for a super attack on a cooldown (of 3 by the look of the upgrade menu) which so far from rewards i've picked up either do 2 big fire slashes which can stagger boss types or i can buff any villagers next to me so they can do stagger damage. There is also a dodge on L3 of all buttons but it's rarely used, only enemies with red attacks which are so far have only bosses require it, otherwise block on LB stops you taking any damage and you can move with it up which feels nice, and i'm pretty sure i did some late blocks on boss attack which did stagger damage.

The other major part of the combat is ordering the villagers around, tapping the combat button pauses time and i can issue them to move around, there is a little frustration in not being able to move the camera up and down the map for some reason, so you can only order them to where ever you are. You can heal them up but it requires running up to them to apply the heal which uses your crystals up.

The priestess will only move during day time and sets up an defensive wall at night, once the night is over she will start moving again, you can then continue to loot/explore the map, repair any spirit walls you find. Once the priestess reaches the gate the stage will end or continue depending on the level you have entered, the 4 standard levels i've done have mostly been 2 stages so finishing stage 1 of a level won't leave you with much time to set defences for the 2nd stage by the time the priestess walks to it, so there's probably some nuance in properly planning how far you want the priestess to go in the daylight cycle, so far i'm just about getting away with going as far as can...

You will also get boss levels, a single smallish area where the priestess sits put and you fight a big demon which requires staggering and then using the extra boss command for the villagers to zerg and retreat, defeated 2 bosses so far has given me new villager types to deploy.

Once the fighting is done, rewards are dished out, looted items are kept and it's back to the various liberated villages to upgrade yourself through new talismans or the villager units which come with a flexible upgrade path where you can refund any upgrades to be spent elsewhere for free and as many times you like. The other part of the village is using the limited villager resource to repair the village, assigning 1 to 4 of them to fix up something which so far takes 1 level completion, and the rewards on returning have so far been upgrades for me or the villager unit.

Graphically the game isn't pushing the envelope, so you can turn all RTX bells and whistles on and it will remain a smooth ride, so it relies heavily on the 1500 century japan/yokai theme while the player looks like something from Garou/Sentai squad. Also use the japanese voices, the english VA is terrible. Also comes with Okami music pack which i don't care far much for, i remember the game but not it's music.

Overall i'm enjoying it so far, i've done 4 levels and 2 bosses, and its not thrown to much at me at once to keep track off... yet. Worth a go if you miss those PS2 days of niche, tightly-scoped games on a small budget and at 17gb download and on gamepass it should be worth your time.
