Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster - PS5/Xbox/PC

This is the original Dead Rising game you know and love/hate/want to like. The remaster adds some QoL stuff and obviously improved visuals.

    The Quality of Life features:
    • Survivor AI: Survivors are easier to rescue (they can still get stuck in some situations from what I've seen though)
    • Hands Free calls with Otis
    • Ability to advance time
    • Saving: The game now Auto-Saves at key moments i.e. a boss fight. So if you continue, you can jump straight back into the beginning of the fight.
    • Aiming firearms whilst moving
    • PP points can be acquired at a much fast rate
    • Controls have been revamped (original controls optional)
    • Durability gauge for weapons
    • List of changes here...
I always wanted to love this game as it always looked a ton of fun. A zombie game where you are trapped in a mall where you can find all kinds of weapons in stores. However, the timed events of the game stressed me out a little, making me think "have I missed something important?". That element is still here, but the QoL features really help make the game a fair bit easier and in turn (IMO) a lot more fun.

So far, I'm on the 6th case of the main story and have rescued quite a few optionals along the way. It looks great and I am really enjoying it. I reckon I may end up going for all the trophies too (which apparently are quite doable).

A small FYI: the game was originally designed to be played multiple times over. Missing stuff was a part of the design in that it would enforce more plays with different routes/approaches. If you could play perfectly on your first and only run the game would end up as shallow as a puddle without the player really doing any exploration.

A little 'You'll get 'em next run, champ!' message would have been nice.

I always liked grinding runs/restarts to level up in Dead Rising. Great game. I’d say 3 is my fave but I defo want to dive into this for another run.

Only thing I didn’t like in the original was killing the most annoying foes in the game

        the convicts in the vehicle

only for them to respawn. I wouldn’t be offended if they’d addressed that as a QoL feature

I've finished my first run today. I didn't take them out (except for the gunner) which I did with some handguns and close-up katana.

I had one attempt at Infinity Mode (basically survive as long as you can - your health will gradually drop, but you can replenish with food etc. Psychos and survivors will be randomly dotted around the mall for you to take out and get nice weapon pick-ups. Plus there are no rescue missions.) Anyway, by the time I had this mode unlocked, my character was approx mid level 40s. I went out into the park section and there they were. This time I confronted them with an axe. When chasing/dodging the vehicle, I would use my jumping Tekken Law kick and then mix in some axe. This would take out each prisoner pretty easily.

Basically, level up in main game a bit and try it out. I'm sure they can be cheesed some way.

One of my proudest achievements is the one in the original 360 game where you kill the same amount of zombies as the population count of Willamette.

Picked this up from CeX yesterday (with the special edition content code still intact ... some of the costumes for Frank are class ). Given it's been nearly 20 years since I played this it's amazing how familiar the mall feels The quality of life changes are all welcome and integrate nicely. It's really good. So many games strive for gritty realism these days it's refreshing to play something that acknowledges it's a game from top to bottom in all its amazing daftness.

loved this back in the day and if you try the PS4 version its quite clunky and the fact you cant move and shoot shows how it needed to be improved

platinumed the game and the 7 day survivor is way easier, you still need to ration food but you can speed up time and now i think it took me about 5-6 hours to achieve, love how each playthrough the zombie kill total is accumulative, currently sitting at 100,000+

i died day 9 on survivor because i over sped time too much but i probably only had about a day left

new trophies and new books are useful and i love how modern times the achievements have changed, like Frank the Pimp or genocider

It's just a fun game. I've not played any of the sequels. I've heard apart from DR2 Off the Record, nowt else is worth looking into?
