Due to be 'free to play' in around June 2025, Path of Exile 2 can be played now in Early Access for 23 quid. I went for the latter after hearing about the game from a friend.
If you've ever played the first game, this will feel almost night and day in terms of gameplay feel and graphics. It's a gorgeous game. It plays amazingly. Like a modern day gauntlet. Oh and of course there's all the other ARPGs out there, such as Diablo. I like Diablo, and I had started playing IV before playing this. It's decent. One thing that makes Diablo feel a bit dated to me is the controller support. In PoE2, you control your character like playing a twin-stick shooter. In fact, I am playing a merc class who uses crossbows. I am basically a twin-stick shooter. Let's not get ahead of ourselves though. We will still need to level up things like attack speed etc. But hello, what this? I have access to gas, flash, electric and explosive bombs? They synergise too? Why does my crossbow behave like a shotgun...am I playing that retro Capcom game Mercs?
The game is quite comfy to play. It's not too taxing. It's fun! There are some bosses so far that have been a bit tricky (I am currently Lvl34). There are currently 50 unique bosses in the game (100 when the game leaves Early Access) and 400 monster types!
I am currently playing a solo campaign, but I also do have a character for co-op (supports up to 6 players).
If you are on the fence about this game, then I say make the leap. If you like these sort of game, I think it's worth the entry price.
I've had lots of fun with it.
