I haven't played it for a while but i think it's definately one to buy.
Don't expect to love it straight away though as it does take a while to get used to it. I can pretty much guarantee you'll be hooked within a few hours play.

It's just a shame it gets really hard, as i'm still around 6 golds away from unlocking the mirror mode.

It's not really anything like F-Zero GX at all tbh. Still fun though, though it won't geab you for weeks or anything.

I'm also thinking about picking this up on Thursday ! I want to know is it really as beautiful as everyone is saying? I mean I bought F-Zero GX (Cube) to play on the Wii and love it ! Amazing speed, great visuals and fantastic gameplay. Is that what I should be expecting from Excite Trucks?

FZGX is a modern classic. Visually ET is definitely not as beautiful, the frame rate is around 30-40, but it's still highly playable and enjoyable game. Very different from FZGX in many respects though.

Picked it up on Thursday also and have been enjoying it.. played a bit of multiplayer last night and although it's a bit weak compared to the 1-player and it was difficult for people to get the hang of the control everyone had a blast with it.

I was having problems getting S on a couple of tracks on normal difficulty (one was a real pain even to get a B!) so I can't think how it's gonna be on hard.. did anyone here get Mirror Mode unlocked or did you give up!?

I was thinking of getting this but the reviews put me off. The positive comments here might sway me. How similar is it to F-Zero as I haven't really enjoyed that game so far as it doesn't feel like I am racing, just zooming around hyper fast tracks twitching left and right when needed.

It's quite different to F-Zero, but I think the importance of twitching/fine positioning and manouvering your vehicle in the air is a similar gameplay element in both. As it's more of an off-road racer the tracks on Excite Truck are pretty wide and offer multiple courses (although occasionally the track boundaries/direction can become unclear), but generally in order to get the best points you need to be pretty accurate in hitting switches/jumps correctly which can be difficult with this control method. You also need to come first to get the highest bonus stars if you're going for the best rank which is what makes it especially hard.

I got mirror mode.

Are you managing to do air 360's? If you can knock those out in a consistant basis it really helps. Also, make good use of truck smashes, get multiples by grabbing that speed icon. It's a given, know the course, choose your route. I found some terrain changes to be a negative and avoided using them.

Have you read my review here? Might give you some more idea if you haven't. It's not really an F-Zero all out speed racer, it's much more like that old classic Stunt Car Racer than anything.

That was and still is my favourite Dreamcast game, i was hoping this would be very similar.

Missed that DC one. No idea how as I think I own more DC titles than for any other console (sold my PS1 games a loooong time ago).

As for any comparisons to FZero. Same school, different years. And one is a child genius while the other just scraped through with his 11plus. By cheating.

Can't remember when I last picked up ET. Wasn't this year that's for sure. And I generally love racing titles. Apart from FZ which was too hard for me. And GT which is too anal now.
