    Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops

C'mon guys, I know Wii has been released en' all, but is there nobody playing this fine addition to the Metal Gear family at all?

I've only started cutting my teeth with it, but already I'm quite taken with the recruiting mechanic of the game thus slowly building my "rebellion". Basically, the game plays out like the Metal Gear game we know and love; you engage in various missions either working alone or with various team members or you can send them to do you dirty work - or so I'm led to believe anyway.

The story narrative is set after the events of Snake Eater (and are referred to as such), cut-scenes are dictated in the fashion of a comic-book, much like the recent-ish MGS Story UMD that came out a few months ago.

The control mechanics take a bit of getting used to, since it's pretty much lifted the PS2 controls and plonked them onto a PSP. It can get quite fiddly, but once you've sussed them, you'll be fine with it.

    So far, so good though...

Got this on order from Yes-Asia but still not shipped yet.

Don't have a PS2 so I've only played MGS1 on Gamecube and the Acid games on PSP, but I'm really looking forward this.

Have you had a wander outside to try and pick up new characters from Wireless hotspots yet? it sounds cool although you could look like a weirdo!

I heard about that too, and also about how it also works with the GPS addon for the PSP for some kind of geocaching effect... A little silly, but sounds like it could interesting.

It's caught my interest, might pick this up when I'm a little less swamped with games. In the meantime I'll let you guys test the water

When your on the map screen there is a match option simply select it to get online. Would agree with Bleeders excellent game recruiting soldiers is good fun and dividing them in the various squads give the game a simple mangement side. The game really is suited to portable play very well and worth it for any MGS fan.

just had a few minutes with it. only done a very tiny bit, up to getting

                roy campbell

                .
first impressions are that controls do seem quite fiddly. i wish they'd stuck with the traditional metal gear solid camera angles instead.... moving it around yourself seems like an extra complication you could have done without. but i guess i'll get used to it.
looks lovely though, and great to hear that music again.

Got this from VGP this morning, and then spent the next couple of hours trying to get the new Devhook working so that I could play it without upgrading my firmware.

With that done I played the first couple of missions to give it a try. It feels a bit unwieldy next to the dual stick 3D camera of Subsistence - I got spotted in the first room I entered by an enemy that I couldn't see - and there seems to be a lot of button combinations to do all your moves, but I'll stick with it and see how I get on. It looks nice, as well: somewhere between the PS1 MGS and the PS2 installments.

I should also mention that I love the style for the cut scenes. The 3D ones of the PS2 games are obviously a bit beyond the PSP, so the brilliant looking Digital Graphic Novel style is a great alternative.

                      Kept you waiting, huh?

With any luck you'll get it tomorrow. I ordered mine last Thursday and it arrived today.

I'm really liking this so far. Once you get your head around the controls it plays like a proper MGS game, and the recruiting idea is really cool.
