I have my Wii through the component and dont have a switch box yet so I may leave this game till I finish Zelda and then play about with the cables.
We are having the same discussion in the LCD/plasma thread.

There is loads of tearing on VGA and virtually none on component, it must be a bug of the game/the 360.

Just got the Worm Hunter achievement, how hard was the run across the wasteland. Came close too biting it so many times, didn't manage to find all the markers though so will have to redo the level later. Do you keep the markers you find if you replay the level or do you have to find them all over again?

Just completed the game. It was plain sailing after the mission 9 boss (which was only really a problem because I had low T-Eng on my checkpoint save) so I may well go back and try Extreme. The last boss was really easy Monkey, I just kept hitting L and R and that was about it! How did you approach it?

I have to say the PTX-40A VS is a thing of beauty. It can be a chore in the more clunky mechs but that thing is awesome.

The game has been a real positive surprise for me as I wasn't expecting too much after the luke warm demo.

Just got this today and am loving it so far. The atmosphere is great and it just screams Capcom. Graphics are pretty good too, although obviously not Gears of War level. My only complaint is that the control is a bit sluggish, again post Gears it feels a little out of date.

Still great though and further proof that these big budget Capcom productions are guaranteed gold. Will have to try the multiplayer soon.

In short - if you haven't bought this based on a few wobbly reviews don't believe what you read. This is AAA stuff.

I just ****ing completed the first boss on extreme!!!!!!!!!!!! No Vital Suits to help me, and as Kubrick mentioned, four of those rolling Akrids along with the huge one. It was HARD AS NAILS! No joke, it took me the best part of three hours (and plety of repeats) to defeat the ****er using the standard shotgun and a discarded rocket launcher. The odds are stacked against you. I seriously thought it was impossible when I first reached the end of the level. You can't stay still for a second! And you've got 999 on the T-ENG metre and it drops FAST!

Anyway, here's how I did it.

From the off, the boss is scaling the room with his spin attack. While he's in motion all the smaller Akrids position themselves around the edges of the room. The two to the right get it with grenades until the boss descends to the ground. He lunges for you, so I dived underneath him and roll to the right (heading for the now dead/frozen Akrid corpses I wasted with the grenades). Quick turn to face the centre of the room while keeping up against the wall as you run. More grenades thrown towards the remaining 3 smaller Akrid, while dodging any of the attacks from the boss. The boss will begin to build up momentum for a rolling attack if you are at a distance or have dealt him some tail-end damage (I found the shotgun at close range very effective). You have two choices when he begins this attack. #1 - To throw a grenade to throw him off balance, leaving him open to attack for a few seconds, or #2 - dive out of the way at the precise moment he approaches you, amd wait 'til he stops the attack (he will spin around the room 3 times before he does so).
I opted for option one and got some shots in when he was down rather than trying to circle him. You have to rely on the Thermal Energy he drops to keep you alive, because by the time you've destroyed the smaller ****ers you'll be half dead and extremely vulnerable. I got a few shots in with the rocket launcher found in the room to finish him off.

I've honestly never felt more satisfied beating a boss in any game, ever. And he's just the first. 0_0

No you retain them when you replay the mission, which is good. Only thing is, they all respawn when you replay the mission so you will see ones you have already.

Ye gods i'm finding this game tough! Just past the worm on the snow that i tried to kill, popped three of it's yellow spots and it looked like it died, it collapsed and the music stopped and all! The it came back with the spots healed up. Bugger that I thought. Then I get stuck fighing a purple mech! Jesus christ she can get in loads of shot before the mech has even straightened up! So tough.

I killed the Worm earlier but it didn't die until I'd taken out ALL the spots. Took about 40mins.

Congrats man. I got him down to 50% after an hour of repeated 5-way gang-rape, will continue tomorrow. After my first few attempts I was literally sat here laughing to myself at the difficulty. If people thought Normal mode was hard they haven't ****ing seen anything yet. Hard mode was piss easy compared to this absolute monster.

More to the point extreme mode is exactly what I'd hoped for, A-to-B with only the Akrid energy to keep you warm, this is how I was playing some of the later levels anyway so the actual levels shouldn't be a problem, just the damn bosses where you don't get a VS.

Extreme Mode after a solid night of online battles has made this game 10x better imo, looks like I could be on this for a series of weeks. I might even collect all the markers just to be a proper bum-boy.

Yeah I just finished mission 3 last night and that mech battle at the end is an eye opener. Start as you mean to go on Capcom, no messing about with easy early levels!

Wasn't too tough once I worked out her firing patterns though, but those initial few fights were pretty crazy.

Love the amount of smoke and fire the game fills the screen with during that fight too. And the sound is just epic stuff when cranked up high in 5.1.
