Got this yesterday and have played a few tour tracks before starting on the missions. That Mission 4 on the Chicago line is a little tough where you need to stay as close to 25Km/h to cover the distance in time. Osaka/Kyoto missions were easy enough but I got stuck on mission 5 of Tokyo though (Traffic signal 2) where you have to brake from 65 > 45 >25 then stop within 50m of the red light. After that there's an ATS message but whatever I do it seems to fail me. Think it's something simple I'm missing

The alternate camera angles are a welcome addition. Haven't played a train game since the PSP and it's a nice alternative to the frenzy that is MotorStorm.

So does anyone think Railfan will appear in the west? (the inclusion of Chicago got me wondering) I was thinking of ordering the Japanese version in the hope that it might run on a PAL PS3 come launch time - as it appears not to be region locked.

        I very much doubt it.

The following Japanese site has loads of detailed tips for playing Railfan. Its in Japanese, but you can get a rough translation from Babelfish

        Homepage
        Kyoto
        Tokyo

The site owner is still creating the pages, Tokyo isnt complete and Chicago hasnt been added yet.

Really enjoying this so far & it's perfect for Sunday afternoon/ chillout gaming. The video footage makes a huge difference to the overall atmosphere & gameplay wise it seems much more lenient than DDG Final which seemed a bit sadistic at times.

Just one thing though.....I really need to get a controller. Anyone know of an online retailer that sells them or if there is a PS3 / Railfan version out soon? Thanks!

there's no railfan controller coming out unfortunitly.

the only place that sold the densha type 2 controller was yesasia, but its now sold out (was approx £68

the controller appears secondhand on ebay about 3 times a year (i know this for sure as i have searched for densha and densya on ebay a couple of times everyday for the last 2 years).

i've checked every import online retailer that i can think of and none have the controller.

yahoo actions have them weekly, so thats your only choice really. remember that its the type 2 controller you need.

Thanks.....I'd had a look at a few places and could find a few of the other controllers in-stock but no type 2's. Will keep an eye on ebay but imagine they'll go for a premium if they come up so infrequently.

Pity there's no PS3 controller currently planned......hopefully one'll come out somewhere down the line (sorry for the very bad pun!).

yeah, ongakukan should release this monster....

                Ongakukan CEO playing prototype.

The type 2 controller usually goes for ?40-?50 buy it now from japanese sellers. I don't think i've ever seen it go for bidding.

Talking of Japanese driving fun, has anyone played Tokyo Bus Guide 2 on PS2? I've just ordered it from Play Asia on a whim, but I have no idea what it's like.

its very good, if you use the gt pro steering wheel. it isnt very good with the ps2 controller. the acceleration and brakes are very delicate. it really doesnt work with a pad unfortunitly.

the graphics are pretty outdated (even when it came out).

if you get a decent steering wheel and foot pedals, you'll really enjoy it (i did)

Menu translations are available in the forum section, from the densha.com links i've posted in this thread.

Is anyone able to translate page 17 of the manual? Its the page about Mission mode.

It appears that its different every time you play the last mission (the full route) for each route. For example, I've just done Tokyo again and I swear it was different, not as many stops at stations, and when I completed it my gold star changed to 3 stars (???).

Is a scan of the english instruction sheet available anywhere? I have the JPN version on the way, I'm wishing I'd bought the Asian one.

The Densha de Go Type 2 controller is 6000 Yen which is a bit steep I think. I got the Shinkansen controller which may not work on the PS3 Railfan, but to pay 6000 and shipping to send it home...bit too much I guess.

By my (very) rough calculations 6000 yen is approx. ?25-30 ish? Not too bad I guess but I'm guessing shipping might be a killer....are they pretty heavy?

                                Cheers,
                                Mark

(I shouldn't even be asking this tbh......I'm currently looking into buying a Kato trainset & it ain't gonna be cheap!!)
