      It's not hard at all to pick and play, but you may miss some of the subtleties of the game that way, plus all the force powers are detailed in the manual. The 'quick character' creation option at the beginning of KOTR shows how mindful Bioware was to making this game accessible to people who weren't necessarily experienced in RPGs, the manual just fleshes it all out.

        I've enjoyed it quite a bit so far. I'm finding the sewers quite hard though. My only problem is work. I wish I could take a day off.

          Well I'm now 28 hours into the game and it still has me hooked. The storyline keeps going at a good steady pace and keeps you hooked and interested. I always find it hard to stop playing.

          The charcters are pretty much all well fleshed out with each having some form of backstory which unravels as the game progresses. There are loads of sidequests to take up on and the light/dark side aspect of the game is an excellent feature that will ensure replayablility. I'm currently playing as a male pointing towards the light side, but I did start to play as a female leaning towards the dark side and it plays quite differently.

          Without giving too much away the things I love so far are:

          1. The choice to be good or evil;
          2. Lightsabers - single, dual, double: violet, blue, red, green, yellow - what ever you want, its here;
          3. The ability to draw the other characters to your side of the force;
          4. The fact that your actions in the game decide to save or kill lead charcters without you realising it at the time;
          5. Dark Jedi battles - the most rewarding foes to kill;
          6. Bounty hunting sub-missions;
          7. Jedi powers - choke and throw powers are especially fun.

          The list is endless actually. This is easily the best RPG I've played in ages and would urge anyone who is even remotely interested in the game to go an order it now. You won't be disapointed.

            just completed kotor and its been fantastic.

            i played through as a light side scout and it took me just a tad under 31 hours.

            the end boss is nails and it took me ages to find the right combination of equipment and tactics to beat him or her (no spoilers).,

            all in all this is probably the best game i've played this year

              Did you race through it? I've taken longer than that and and have a little left to do before the final boss I'm sure.

              Mind you I haven't exactly been rushing....

                      Is it just me who has naughty thoughts about Bastila

                      I'll pick up my coat on the way out...

                        Hehe, I find it amusing that she's trying to go incognito but wears the most diverting outfit possible, I stuck a Jedi robe on her just to make her look respectable, the hussy.

                        Just reached Anchorhead and grinned stupidly at being able to talk to the Jawas waddling about the place, taking the time to check out every sub-quest and alternate path though as I want to draw the experience out as much as possible.

                        HK-47 is great comic relief, I'm currently trying to raise enough cash to get him into my party.

                          Bastilla's nice on the eyes, but for some weird and pervo reason I've always like Twi'leks and their head tentacles. Strange, I know, but still...

                            I'm only 2 1/2 hours into it
                            I think both of the peeps in my party are level 5, and both good.

                            By the way, can people be more aware when they are posting story details. I don't want to know anything about the game before I get there myself. Remember that some people have only just started the game, so please use the spoiler tags.

                              I put about 2 ? hours on it yesterday and, like PeteJ, the opening is a bit underwhelming. I was prepared for that, though, as I read Pete's comments before I even had the game and thought 'Yep, that's RPGs for ya'. Still, I'm wringing some pleasure from the system as it stands (despite my only real options being hit someone or heal myself), and can't wait til I can queue a more intricate set of moves.

                              One thing - following the dark side is really hard. Because you have to be unpleasant, you have to be ignorant. To chastise or hurt someone, it often feels like you are missing out on information. For example (safe to read for anyone who's played the game for more than 3 hours):

                              Then I see it's in my mate's inventory! Does this mean it was there all along and he 'forgot' to mention it; I skipped a cutscene with him explaining how he'd got it (not likely) or that it automatically found itself in his inventory as soon as the alien fella was butchered? Was a bit strange and disappointing. Or it could be that I was just being thick. It's been known, you know

                              In general, though, you really get a strong feeling of missing-out by picking the dark route, although this might just be early-game-paranoia on my part. Like when you travel to the undercity, and that old dude asks you to find his apprentice before he'll give you information. I really struggled with taking the 'Leave me alone, you crazy old man' option, but took it in the end, so as to ignore his pleas and cause him suffering. Now I worry that I'm going to miss parts of the story
                              Is this the case, or does it even-out?

                                Can I just say that this has been an incredible discussion thread.

                                I knew little about this game, and had no interest in it (and only a pasing interest in Star Wars in general) yet I have been following this thread religiously eagerly anticipating each member's views and experiences with the game has been enthralling, and I now can't wait to own the game.

                                Personally I think this a greta indicatin of how brilliant our forums can be.

                                (Unfortunately with my X-Box being the only console unable to play imports, I'm going to have to wait a few months but from what I've read the wait will be worth it )
