    Supreme commander (pc)

had a very brief go of this last night

does seem quite impressive......i have a feeling though it is going to bring my computer to its knees once things get a bit busy as things are a bit juddery now (and the graphics are on medium)

    my specs are
    athlon 64 3500
    x800 xl graphics
    2gb of ram

will have a bit of rant though one of my gripes with rts games are the really long winded tutorials really the information you need could be given in 10 seconds but they have to stretch it out

the maps size was really impressive though when you zoomed out i think its going to be huge scale battles

will give more details once i have got the hang of it

The maps are huge, I think the biggest are 80 square miles, which when you think about everything being to scale it makes it feel pretty vast.

Did you play the beta at all, I would love to know how the full release compares to the beta in terms of graphics lagg/slowdown. I found the beta to be quite intensive on my computer, I could pretty much get a constant 20 fps with the settings reasonably high, however the game still felt as if it was running like crap, slightly slower than it should be.

    My Specs:
    Sandiego core Opteron 146 (2.0ghz o/c -> 2.4ghz)
    2Gb RAM
    x1800xt 512mb ATI Graphics

I have a feeling I'll need to upgrade my processor for this game though.

      nope didnt play the beta

it seems to run ok so far but i have not got into any big battles yet

i really dont want to upgrade for this.....was not long ago i was saying a 64 bit processor that should last me a while then all this dual core stuff came out and to use that i would need a new motherboard

Had exactly the same problem, really should have waited, my comp is more or less the same spec as yours, and its dated already.

Still i'm going to give SC a go since I loved TA so much - hopefully my comp can run it ok.

According to Chris Taylor the game is limited more by CPU than GFX card, and to run the largest maps you'll need a decent dual core.

            Athlon Fx 60
            2gb DDR
            2x7900GTXs

Yay, just what I wanted to hear.

In other news, I now need to find ?1000 from somewhere for a ninja PC.

SC doesnt really have a tutorial though. Its just a bunch of movies you watch when you want to watch them on a sandbox level. If you get stuck you can watch them or you can test them out for yourself. Main game does give you a few basics to start but it doesnt hold your hand like most RTS games out their. Their is stacks of rock/paper/scissor units though and its abit mind boggling to do with the units when you first start (4tiers for units for example, 3tier and a uber experimental one, nukes, anti nukes, shields, cloaks, you name it and of course nasty boom boom nukey submarine payloaders).

I played the beta and it was bad on my 3gig P4 2gig ram 6800 ultra (tried it and deleted it basically). I got the full game at the weekend (I dunno why as my computer is dying!) and it was smoother but still no good (I can run COH fine or I could anyway).

Problem is though it made me cry like a baby as it is TA remade (my fav ever RTS) and it ate my PC up in one gulp and laughed for more by the time Id got to mission 2. The game looks stunning and plays great. Put it like this I talked to my parents that day after playing it and they agreed to buy me a new computer and I pay em back (im on disabilty so I cant get any deals etc...) as I was that impressed with it

For me its a machine killer and a machine buyer but I know from others it even brings a core duo to its knees later on at high res as it is a future proof game (susposed to be fine at lower res ie 1280x720 which for me is high anyway as Id never play at 19xx dual screens). This and COH have to be 2 of the best PC games in years (and the best RTS games for a long long time or since DOW anyway).

Some of the effects are great though like the shield on your base. It is now benched anyway till my core2 arrives with a nice 8800gtx in 2weeks

I am really tempted to pick this up, although I know I won't be able to run it to its full potential. It is the TA remake that we the fans have always wanted, from what I played of it during the beta it really is a fantastic game.

It will be quite a daunting game at first, it's got a very deep system, hundreads of units are at your disposal, not to mention a ton of tactical buildings (shields/stealth gens, etc). With all this comes literally infinate possibilities for stratergy, it's not just a race to the highest technology tier as it is with most RTS games. I imagine this will be a game that will keep the hardcore players going for a long long time.

I've pretty much milked COH to death now, it's an amazing game that I still play pretty much every day (as I have some great friends who I team up with), however at the same time I have probably played well over a thousand games online and have pretty much every stratergy accounted for.

I need something new, but at the moment I'm not sure if it's going to be this or waiting a month for c&c3 (which looks pretty system intensive too).

Eh...eh eh...my poor Athlon XP 3000+ will start spitting blood the moment I'll install it...oh joy, I will have to anticipate the new PC.

Well you can low everything down and get rid of shadows etc... but the sheer wealth of units fighting is going to hurt at the end of the day. It says on the box my spec is the reccomemend so we all know what that means in PC speak, double it and where telling the truth

Ive heard their is a full TA mod coming so I hope it's true (the mod system is susposed to be fantastic again anyway just like TA with units etc... and includes GUIs not yet used for future mods/addons which are disabled on screen).

If your used to TA Zanza you should be fine for getting going, only a few different things with the energy mass system (you can get % for linking around buildings) and you can still suck treeks for mass. You get nice boom boom stuff as well ie nukeys and your usual commander bot

well im running the game on a a64 3000, 6899gt (overclocked), 1 gb of no make ram. i have to put everything on its lowet setting to get it to run at a decent framerate @ 1024 res. knew it would be like this though, and the game is such fun it doesnt bother me.. when the action gets hectic your scrolling in and out of the map so much you dont notice it

the game is great though. people should start posting their gpgnet freind names on here and we should get a ntscuk match on the go.. mine is themanmoran and ill be on after 10 if anyones interested.

Am I going to need another gig of ram? I've only got 1gb (it is DDR). Otherwise my specs are the same as Eastyy's - a64 3500 (VC) and X800XL gfx.

COH ran fine for me - maybe i'll have some luck with this one.

you can get away with 1gb of ram ( i am) but obviously two would be better especially for the larger maps
