Brian Lara Cricket World Cup (360 DEMO)

    What do people think then?

It's pretty nice looking but the actual players don't look as good as I feel they should.

Plays nicely and once you get into it is good fun, shame the demo is only 3 overs.

Still very easy to hit lots of sixes too which is nice!

    Not cancelling my pre-order

    Anyone else play it?

I played it briefly at a friends and also thought some of the graphics could be better and it seemed it was all too easy to score runs, will have to download it and have a proper play soon.

Can see it (the full game) getting boring quickly though.

How does it compare to 2006? Is it virtually identical?

The demo is clearly set on an easy setting (managed to get a high score of 65 in the 3 overs), I think the full game will be more of a challenge. Pretty similar to the last version but with slightly better graphics. If you take an interest in cricket then I presume it would be worth picking up on the other hand if you don't then you won't find anything to your liking here. I will be getting it cos I liked the demo and it has an online mode now too, which should be interesting.

Pretty much plays like it, just looks nicer.

It does say its 90% complete, and I'm assuming the complete lack of sound effects and slightly below par visuals for the players is due to that.

The sound let the demo down for me.

One thing that REALLY annoyed me however was this scenario.

You bowl, they hit it a little bit but don't run, so you throw it to the wicket keeper who "stumps" them, EVERY single time the camera goes to the umpire who signals "not out".

**** me, yeah mate I know he's not out, I wasn't trying to get him out...he didn't move, he didn't run, of course he's not out, I've just stumped him is all.

That needs removing very quickly because it ruins the games realism.

I must admit I'm REALLY feeling let down by the player visuals though, they look like pale imitations of the real people.

Online might be where it's at, and the achievements look nice too

The demo is boooorrring!! Just like real cricket! Mind you i suppose there isn't a great deal of scope when making a cricket game.

Maybe EA will bring out a street cricket game!

Superb idea, you could run down the wicket and smash the ball out of the bowlers hand before they bowled, then your partner could run and knock the wicket keeper ****less, perhaps knock him into the crowd for 10 runs!!

Wii Cricket needs to be made however.

Wonder if Joe Mangle and Bouncer would be up for endorsing such a title

LOL, the Neighbours Cricket scenes are always pure comedy.

I thought it was sh8t. Graphics wouldn't look out of place on the DC, gameplay that's so simplistic is almost insulting, the Fielding is crap , the batting far too easy . Lara 96 on the MD sh8ts all over it for a great height .

Mind you the full game 'might' be a bit better

Get used to it. It was a bug in 2005 and was instantly moaned about on their boards. They haven't taken it out of this version nearly 2 years later, in fact it's got worse. I've no idea what the excuse is but it had better be good.

That disappointment aside I will be buying the full game as things like the bug above are only aesthetic really (even though they're massively annoying). When it comes down to it, on TEST difficulty the game is the best Cricket game available.

A lot of peoples complaints about this demo are because it's on SLOG difficulty and so there's no real variation in pace with bowling etc.

For cricket fans this will be superb over XBL. Especially with the World Cup running the next 6 weeks.

That's pretty rubbish. The other that annoyed the hell out of me in 2006 was that the AI would hit the ball and clearly there's time for at least a single, but it would just stand there and do nothing, even on Test setting. I was looking forward to this but i'll probably give it a miss on this evidence.

Yeah that was a known bug, the AI only ever scored boundaries. That's definitely fixed in 2007.

Another annoyance for me, the fielders are PAINFULLY slow...RUN YOU **** RUN!!! But they don't, then when they get the ball the bar to "throw it" is ridiculously fast...

I'll probably get this eventually what with being a Yorkshireman, and having a fondness for googlies(lol). I've still got the last one, or maybe the one before it - somewhere. I do hate these series that up date themselves though, but being a cricket fan with my England peaked hat on as I type this I'll definitely have to pick this up. If for nothing else, but to get England coming home with the trophy because I'll be shocked if they do anything in the actual competition over in the W-indies. Thats regardless of how good a chance people seem to think they've got.
