Have you done many of the data pack simulation battles?? They are brilliant for learning how to combat Nexts... had some tremndous battles with some AI Nexts last night. Would be getting my ass leathered a few times then when I found the right weapon combination I would wipe floor with them. Wish it rewarded you with cool new prototype parts or something rather than just money all the time. Great fights though.

Campaign wise Barbaroi is the only Next I have fought and he wasn't too bad cause I got a good bit of damage in on him before he activated... I know the later fights are gonna be brick though.

That is re-assuring you are doing the same thing as me with your mech then, just swapping parts for one mech, cool. Problem I am having is the speed my mech turns to aim... a couple of times when I was close combat Nexts they ran circles round me cause I couldn't keep my targetting system on them... def need to get my turning arc quicker but not sure of the best way to do that?? My lock speed is a lot quicker now I installed a new on board processer but I need to get more turning speed

      Man I love this game

i haven't done the simulations yet as i read somewhere that they are pretty tough until you unlock some kind of cannon that i can't remember the name of.

what's good for slicing up NEXTS? lasres and swords? are any of the missiles good or do they lose their lock too quickly since the NEXTs boost everywhere?

It all depends on the mobility of the NEXT really. I have done all of the available simulations... something like 12/13 1v1 NEXT battles where you choose the environment, absolute class every one of them.

Best thing to do is to install a processor that has good lock on for non missile weapons and fit yourself with the strongest ballistic rifle and laser rifle you can. I have been able to take down nearly all the simulations NEXTs using this combination... a back mounted plasma cannon on either arm is good aswell, but they have few shots, weigh a ton and when the NEXT you are fighting is mobile it is hard to land a hit with it BUT when this bad boy does hit home on a NEXT it does some serious damage.

I aint sussed the use of missiles for NEXT fights yet... they are great for other units and NORMALs but with NEXTs they seem to be quite ineffective. Probably cause the NEXTs are using flares and stuff so I would stick to energy weapons and rifles for these battles. Also, if the opposing NEXT is using missiles it makes lock ons hard for you cause each missile it fires becomes a target you can take out... SO, if you have a rifle you can not only take out the missiles the enemy fires but leather them with a combination of Primal Armour damage and Ballistic Armour damage

DO NOT use Laser swords for NEXT fights, it is almost redundant due to the speed and manouvreability of them, unless of course you have a heavy weapon that can stun them but I have yet to use this combination effectively.

Yeah... last night was the night I officially fell in love with everything AC related can you tell?? LOL.

Well, as anyone monitoring the sales thread might have saw, I got the PS3 JPN version (selling it on today to get the 360 PAL version) and I LOVE it. I think I'm turning into a bit of a FROM fanboy, but I love the graphical style in their games. The sparse environments with detailed characters are a sort of signature, and I thought it looked really tremendous. I sometimes think a more spartan graphical style can really help, as the brain sort of fills in the details, unlike Gears or something, that pretty much puts everything it can on the screen and makes your brain process everything passively. And the brain is better than the Unreal engine.

And I love the speed. Love, love, love the speed. It's like Chromehounds on acid. Boosting up into the air is just perfectly done, and a total joy, and even the fact the weapons are on the face buttons, and look on the right stick isn't much of a problem thanks to the lock on mechanics.

Anyone been trying this online, how does it hang together? I can imagine it being brilliant.

I just bought the Jap PS3 copy, and if it's to my liking I'll pay the extra for a PAL xbox copy.

How is the Japenese text on the game mate? Will I be able to play it without any Jap reading skills?

Found the buy / sell menu in the garage area and it is now clear why it costs so much for the schematics I am building. Didnt realise you can build a mech made up of parts from other mechs, that is pretty cool.

So the mech you choose at the start is the only mech you have until you can purchase parts to build other ones?? Nice... but can see it is going to take time and a **** load of money to get the real killer mechs

where exactly is this? I've been buying parts by equipping data only parts

360 mate and it gets better every time I play it.

I am upto Chapter 5 in the campaign now and have compelted ALL of the Simulation NEXT battles (Basically 1v1 battles where you face off against other NEXT units). some of the NEXT battles are tremendoes and really test your AC pilot and customisation skills... thankfully my 15 hours of play so far in the game has given me some insight into weapon combinations so my mech is now fitted with some of the most explosive weaponry on the market, hehe.

I aint tried live yet because no one else on here was playing it but amright up for some games ASAP. I want to test out mech and see how it compares to other human schematics. My set-up totally rips AI NEXT units apart so hopefully it can dothe same online

I have managed to keep my mobility quite high even though the mech is carrying a ridiculous payload so am keen to test it out against humans. I have been using the manual tuning for the mech so have pushed certain things to the limit to get the set-up I want.

I now need to work on a mech that is designed specifically for fast, close quarters combat as that will sit nicely along side my current overpowered behemoth

When you are viewing a part press the X Button (360) or the square button (PS3) and it will bring up the buy/sell menu for that part.

If you dont have the part you are looking at it will say "Data only" under it so you know you need to buy it to equip it. I have been selling parts that I dont use for a specific mission then just buying them back later as there is no part devaluation it doesn't really matter... get what you need for that mission and sell th rest to save money.

Now that I have a silly amount of cash though I can afford an entire new mech, maybe 2 so I am going to start building a fleet. My current mech will be the gaffer of course but he will be flanked by a stupidly fast Close quarters combat mech and a stupidly fast Sniper
I cant believe how into this game I have got since I picked it up... I Armored Core!!

I have actually done something quite cool with the decal... to show how battle hardened my lead Mech is I have taken the decals from each of my toughest NEXT enemies and put them on my mech... like tatoos it looks so cool.

I took out the No.1 NEXT last night and got his decal on the right shoulder of my AC, hehe.

Visually the game is gorgeous and there aint a hint of slowdown or degradation no matter how many units or missiles are on the screen at once. Also, gotta love the Shoulder raltion missiles when you get them... use them right and they can cut an enemy NEXTs AP in half from one salvo.

Forget the lock on... get your mech fitted quick and close quarters nasty then just get yourself through the canyon as quick as possible without attacking anything (Normal boost along with quick boost for enemy fire dodging is your best bet as using your overboost will leave your Primal Armour at zero and your mech pretty much defenceless). Ignore the turets, etc, get through the canyon quick style and then just take out the NORMAL mechs at the facility... mission complete and with good stats. Get in close to the enemy NORMALs with your CQC weapons and quick boost them dizzy as they are slow and wont be able to keep up with your movement and CQC weapons. Go with an laser blade for best results against them, hehe, and take a machine gun for the small turrets at the facility

When the simulations get unlocked these are the best form of training you can get. If you can take out NEXT mechs you can defeat anything else the missions throw at you!!
