SNK vs Capcom Card Fighters DS

I have been playing this for about 2 days now, mostly during my lunch hour at work. Used to love the NGPC version, so I had high hopes for this.

Presentation is basic. I can't help but feel this would of been a totally different game if handled by Capcom alone and not SNK Playmore. You don't actually move around independantly anymore, and the fact that the game takes place in a tower block makes for a very dull playing environment.

The English translation version is, put frankly, ****ing awful. The Story mode (the only single player mode available *at the moment*) is a mess, I have no idea what the hell they are on about. Seriously bad.

Don't quiz me on the card game itself, as I am still learning the ropes, but it seems solid enough once you get through the waffle of the Story mode. I would imagine it to get very tough the further you get in the game, at the moment it feels like its letting you win. Its still the main draw of the game, and it seems to be okay so far.

One major bug-bear with this is the stylus control. Its buggered and too fiddly. You are better off using the buttons. Its hard to imagine how you could bollocks up stylus control, but they've done it!

The original was coded by SNK and that was ace, so Capcom's lack of involvement with this doesn't make any difference.

Between these comments and this cock-up, I'm kinda glad I didn't dive headfirst into buying this... still, I'd like to try it out :/

I was really skeptical about this to begin with, but it's still as addictive as ever.

Of course, there are some big differences (most notably needing mana to play cards) but the cards themselves are flexible enough so that you can build some very clever decks.

Then there's the fact that you don't get given the card at the end of a match (instead your award CP points that can be used to buy cards at various shops found in the tower.

As for the stylus control, yes it's not amazingly well put together, but once you understand how it works (you have to deliberatly hold the stylus down, to highlight a card) it works fine.

Granted, it's not as good as the original, but this is nowhere near the abortion that people are suggesting. If you're a fan of the original, there's no reason why you won't enjoy this. There's a ridiculous amount of cards to collect, plenty of different combinations to discover and some solid battling.

Well worth the £18 I paid for it.

Edit - Just read that kotako post. If that is indeed correct, then that's a major stroke of idiocey.

            Great. I've just ordered this

The bug occurs on the ninth floor of the tower during the second play through
Does this mean you can complete it once?

I'm quite enjoying this. I don't think it's as good as the NGPC original but, if I'm honest, I wasn't expecting it to be.

The card battling has taken a while to get into and the AI seems to get more force gems than I do for some reason. Still, plenty of time to practice and get better at it.

Was a bit concerned by the reports of the bug meaning that you can't complete the game and I actually contacted VGP to ask what I should do if I encounter said bug. Their response was "do you know what causes the bug? If so we advise you keep away from the trigger" which isn't really what I was expecting. I've bought a product which, by all accounts, doesn't work properly and I'm being asked to keep it but not use it to it's full ability.

Not like this. This isn't how the story's meant to go. No, this should be the tale of the underdog made good, of the un…

                  Wow, that's harsh.

Sounds an utter disaster. And, given the simplicity of the original game and the wealth of material to work with from both Capcom and SNK, I don't know at all why people shouldn't have expected this to be as good, if not better, than the original.

Oh I know. It's so unfortunate as the perfect game mechanic was set up. All they had to do was pretty up the graphics, add some new cards, a few new locations and they'd have got it right. It should have been easy.

Not really bothered about the bug TBH, I'm certainly not going to play this through twice!

Has there been any word of a fixed version of this being released?

I think they did a new batch of fixed carts and you can get a replacement if you contact them.
Can't remember where I read it.
