Professional Baseball Spirits 4 (Pro Yakyuu Spirits 4) - PS3

My copy of Konami's Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball-series-gone-real (4) finally came yesterday and I got a little chance to play some last night.

    Professional Baseball Spirits 4 (Pro Yakyuu Spirits 4) - PS3 (Jap) Multi-region.

I never played the Spirits series before, but I did play the old Pawapuro Baseball games back on the Super Famicom.

Like past games this is quite Japanese text heavy (see translation guide link below ), but if you've played past games then you'll be able to pick it up and start playing. However, I recommend going through the tutorials first as they have some helpful controller animations (which sticks and buttons to use etc).

I went through all the tutorials except for the 2 extra 'Running' ones, where I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do with the last man

I played one match and I sucked the big one Of course practice will make perfect. I got beat 4-0 in an exhibition match.

That's all I've done so far and my first impressions are that it's a really good baseball game. Lots of fun to play.

Batting and pitching is fun. Vids of gameplay can be seen here

Presentation is great. The graphics are nice. HD textures and that make it look sharp, but smaller details like moving clothing we are starting to see in sports games are non-existent. That doesn't bother me.

Animations are great, especially facial ones.

One area of the presentation that always made me smile in the Super Famicom games was the sound. The crowd chants, the lady over the tannoy in the stadium and the mad jap commentry are just great.

Also in the audio department, the game seem to feature a create-your-own-team-tune, which will probably be played during your matches. The tune creator looked like a basic midi note sequencer too

On the game modes front, from what I can make out it has your usual Exhibition, training and online modes. Along with things I haven't looked at called Home Run Challenge, Strike Pitch, MVP, Pennant Race, Trial and Spirits modes.

The game features a Pro Evo style points system, where experience points are gained the more you play, which you can then spend in the shop. The shop seems to have lots of stuff from Stadiums, kits and game settings.

Right, I need more practice and I've just stumbled across a 'general' translation guide HERE Haven't had a chance to run through it yet, but a quick skim gave the impression it will do a lot of good.

Glad to see you're liking it. Once you've had a bit of practice, it starts getting a lot better. My first game I lost, but then I was getting 0-0 after 9 innings and eventually grinding out narrow wins. Usually the score is something like 5-2 or 5-3 to me with the best being a 9-0 victory.

If you need a hand getting online with it, let me know and I'll see about getting a translation of the Konamistyle signup screen done.

Anywhere doing this cheap, fellas? Don't mind splashing £20 on this, since I'm not one for Baseball games usually.

I'd say ebay is your best bet for that price. Got mine off there for 20 quid (used).

Don't think so. I'm pretty sure I put mine in Roman characters.
