    Minna No Golf 5 (Everybody's Golf 5) - PS3

    Got this today via the swiftness of Fedex.

    Haven't played too much so far, but from what I have played, I can confirm that it plays frickin ace.

    Everybody's Golf series has always brought the right game of golf to my console. While I do play and enjoy the Tiger Woods series, the button press based swinging system (old school you might say), wins my vote.

    However, this time ClapHanz have implemented a new swing system that still retains the button pressing system. Press the button to begin the backswing, as the club raises, it momentarily flashes at 50% and 100% power. You can repeat the backswing providing you don't press anything, to help get a better idea on where you want to be stopping the backswing.

    On the downswing, a large-ish circle surrounds about an inch and half of outside of the ball. The circle starts to decrease, increasing in speed. You have to stop the circle as it gets to between the recommend marks around the ball.

    The new system works really well.

    Graphically, it's what you'd expect to see in a Minna No Golf title. Super deformed-ish quirky type characters all over the shop. Not much to comment on except that it all looks great in HD.

    Online: There have recently been a little worry from rumours that there might be a region lock out for the online aspect of the game, but after testing it, I can confirm that I got on with no problems whatsoever.

    The way it's play online is a little strange. You join a lobby and then you put your name down for one of many constantly generated tournements. You sign up, then you wait in the lobby until that time comes, then you join and play.

    Luckily, the lobby is presented as a big room holding up to 50 people (beforehand you would of created an online avatar) all chatting and jumping about (you can even double jump(?)).

    Once in a tourney, you'll be playing holes against 49 other people and as far as I could tell from my one go, shots (or maybe the hole) is timed!

    I need to look into it more. In fact I need to look into the whole game more. Seems to be lots to unlock too!

    Overall, my first impressions of this are that it's aces. Also, don't fear about the large scoops of Japanese text that's featured in the game as a few of us here have banged heads together and translated some essentials....

    coming soon

          As far as I can tell, they look the same to be honest. I think they look great.

          When I played the demo, I noticed a lag when you pressed the button to skip watching the shot/lie, this seems to be fixed.

          As for the spin, yes, hold dpad on swing.

            When in an online lobby, pressing Select button will access the XMB's friends and messages section, so you can send and receive messages etc whilst still being in the game.

            Also when in the lobby, your avatar character has 8 emotes available...

            Push right analog stick...

            Up= Leap with joy/love
            Down = Wave both arms (get attention?)
            Left = Greet or thanks (not sure).
            Right = Applaud

            Hold L1 and push right analog stick...

            Up = Stressed/Angry
            Down = Upset
            Left = Startled
            Right = Mime a golf swing.

              Does Everybody's Golf 5 have hot seat multiplayer (multiplayer with just one controller)?

              From the GUI images posted above I'd suspect so, but I'd like to know for sure.

                It does yeah. I think it was just the PSP version that didn't.

                  Played my first full 18 hole online tournement last night and I found it very addictive, even though I found myself second from bottom of the leaderboard by the end of it (about 12 players had quit/failed along the way, mind - so I finished about 38th).

                  When you've finished your hole, you are returned to the leaderboard screen to wait for everyone else to finish the hole. Alongside player's names are their scores, but also a column which lets you know that player's current lie situation i.e. It will show an icon of rough grass, fairway, green or even water hazard. Finally, it will diplay a putter icon along with the distance of their final putt. Also, a bounce-on-green-into-hole icon will be displayed for a off-the-green ball sink Nice touch I thought.

                  You can press the Triangle (or was it Square?) button to switch the same info column to view each individual player's chat text too.

                  It seems the online features divisions just like Pro Evolution Soccer online as well.

                    Hopefully this game will get, at least, a US release. They'd better be quick however, from September onwards things are going to get crowded, gaming wise (if your a multi-format owner). Maybe a 2008 release?

                      Don't think these games sell all too well in the west (not sure though) so don't think it matters too much. My impression is, outside Japan, people prefer the style of Tiger Woods et al. Horse for courses as they say.

                        My copy arrived earlier, I've installed and got all the files needed for online (had to reboot twice, after each set of online files)

                        I got the 'Asia' version with the English sheet which should definitely come in handy, so I've scanned it:

                        MNG SHEET 1
                        MNG SHEET 2

                            The online options are different to the screenshots posted.....
                            I never saw the versus mode before.
