    Dirt Demo (EUR PS Store)

3 cars to try, just like the 360 demo.

Seems fine, but the textures of the trees have a wierd "Mesh" glitch that is really offputting.

Seems to be less "AA" than my 360 version, but the framerate seems better.

Well worth a DL if you are an, erm... Dirt Virgin.

Downloaded it and was impressed with the Rally stage, slightly less so with the crossover stage and much less so with the buggies. Will probably pick up the full game once it goes down in price or some second-hand copies appear, but wouldn't pay full wack for it.

Its in the US store as well by the way.

That's the "optimisation" that a member of this forum was touting as the reason to hold out for the PS3 version - check out da shadows

I'd be suprised if anyone on this forum bought a PS3 to play multiformat games...

At the moment I'm playing Warhawk, Everybody's Golf, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Motorstorm and Resistance. All exclusives (Ninja gaiden sorta).

I can't imagine buying a game that's been out on 360 for months on the PS3, it's bound to be an inferior port surely?

            Actually no.

The Dirt dev is on Gametrailers explaining that the PS3 version is surperior than the 360. That's why I downloaded the demo, to see how much better it would be. I was surprised with what I saw TBH.

I think the framrate is better. Just a shame it looks worse. Did you guys see the mesh thing in the trees? What is that? Some kind of shadow gone wrong?

            Looks pants, whatever it is.

That said, if you don't have a 360, same as GRAW2/Vegas, it will be well worth a punt.

It seems these days that every PS3 port is either inferior or delayed a few weeks/months in comparison to the 360. Quite a turnaround from the days of the PSone and Saturn.

Actually all the recent examples have demonstrated both rather than one or other of the traits you cite.

                GRAW2
                RAINBOW6
                DIRT
                Various EA SPORTS titles

there's more but it isn't exactly fun.

                It's really shocking.

Are we comparing demo to demo, because didn't the 360 DIRT demo look worse than the final product? Improved framerate to me is more important than looks, because to my book (having never played the 360 version) it still looks pretty damn good.

Aye, the FPS thing is subjective too. I only "Think" it was better, so that be wrong.

It deffo looks worse though, same as GRAW2, that "Grainy" look.

That said, also like GRAW2, if you never played the 360 version it's not a big deal.

I might add, as a Demo you may be quite right, the final game could be much better.

Still early days though for multi-platform titles I feel. The PS3 is still new-ish and certainly tonks other hardware platforms on paper. Devcos aren't doing too badly considering the time scales porting stuff over but I guess that's where the corners are cut.

We need a good console vs. discussion. The last generation was overall quite boring really

Just had a quick blast. I haven't played the 360 version but the graphics still struck me as being pretty poor. The rally stage is by far the best, but even that didn't seem that great. The buggy stage was actually pretty shocking. It reminded me of some nameless PC buggy racer from about 3 years ago.

I don't think I can buy this game after playing the demo. It's not really a good sign when the thing that impresses you the most is the menu design.
