I wouldn't nornally chime in on stuff like this, but that is absolute bobbins

Each has their place, to say one is dead and one is the future is just untrue. Strategy and fast paced FPS games have been doing the rounds on PC for years and years now, both together, neither being the future or the past. As has already been mentioned, they're totally different to play. Sure, both FPS, but both totally different.

There will always be those of us who would rather play something fast, bouncy and fun. If you think there's no strategy and intelligence in these sort of FPS, you must be playing something else. It's there, just delivered differently.

"The future of gaming" - what a terrible expression

Anyone know how I can open my campaign to other players? It says privacy (closed) and then gives me three options to open it but no matter which one I select, it still says privacy (closed). Do I need to start a campaign from scratch with someone for it to work?

The standard FPS has indeed been "doing the rounds" for years on PCs and consoles. There have been plenty of genres in the past that stuck rigidly to a template and died out when people became heartily sick of them - flight sims for one thing. A modern day FPS needs a selling point, and for Team Fortress 2 it stands out because of its heritage. Call of Duty 4 for it's graphics and heritage. Bioshock because of its art design. Take away those selling points and all of those games would tank as the market for traditional FPS'es in the pre Gears era will decline after the Halo brandstorm fades.

Beyond the big hitters, how many run and gun shooters are on the way that anyone is in the least bit excited about? Unreal Tournament 3? Heritage again. Is there any new IP based on traditional FPS mechanics that is in the least bit exciting you forsee arriving in the next 12 months? No.

If you're excited about Crysis then best of luck. I'm more excited about an upcoming business trip to Newport.

Crysis and Haze both look pretty special. Battlefield: Bad Company looks interesting. Timeshift has been improving leaps and bounds with every new demo that gets released.

Not really FPS but defo "run 'n' gun" The Club should be awesome too.

Again, not a traditional FPS, but Dice's Mirror's Edge looks like a good un'

OK, further and further from First play, but have you seen Haze running recently? Awful. Timeshift. Awful. The Club, guaranteed to be awful. Your post is the best support for my argument so far.

Halo 3 will be the last successful FPS based on the "classic template", unless there is a Halo 4. Guaranteed.

It doesn't seem to for me.

So, eh, anyone know what I need to do for this campaign opening thing? Or indeed what I need to do for the screenshots, none of which seem to be sending unless I put them myself into the file sharing thing.

Re: Haze. Yeah, got a chance to play it recently and had a good chat with Dave Doak about the problems that were current in the build he presented. Things like texture quality and frame rate were being sorted but they weren't able to create a presentation using that newest build. I also spoke to another member of the FRD team who said exactly the same.

I thought Haze looked great! Some really interesting ideas in an FPS that controlled really well (certainly a miracle given the Sixaxis analogue sticks ) Personally, and this is my opinion so don't shoot me, I'm really looking forward to Haze. I enjoy that style of FPS which is why I really enjoyed Halo 3 (see me getting back on topic there )

Games like Rainbow 6 and GR:AW don't appeal to me because they are that much more "in depth". I simply don't have the time or patience to sit there and prep before a mission or think about how I'm going to storm building X to minimize civillian casualties.

                          Not my cup of tea.

Ans why is The Club "guaranteed" to be awful? Bizarre have yet to make a terrible game as far as I'm concerned and all the hands on I've read about it have been positive.

So, yeah, Halo 3 is the roxxor!! Really want to try and do some Forge today so if anyone's interested I'll be on around 1pm.

It homes at short range, just not accross the map like it used to !

Started on campaign this morning. I don't know if i'm that impressed to be honest. I've only done a couple of missions so far though so its hard to judge. Those brutes and the enemy snipers are right buggers though. I'm playing on heroic level.
