hmmm looks like i didn't get the acheivement I quit mission and restarted at a point and it seems that it doesn't count as a total play through on that level :/

Trouble is, as we all know, IWHBYD is at the end of a long level, but it's the last one I need now!

For the skulls, do you just have to pick it up or do you have to bring it all the way to the end of the level?

Hang on a sec, I've just noticed I don't have the 'campaign complete' achievement. I have the 'Return' (completed final mission) one. Why wouldn't I have the 'campaign complete' one?

And I've just noticed I don't have the first mission achievement either. What the hell? How could that happen?

Edit: I'm guessing I didn't get the campaign complete one because I didn't get the first one. Strange. How could I have moved on without completing the first mission?

Probably the same problem I had. I think it's to do with quitting out and restarting a mission from a specific checkpoint. Basically it saved a checkpoint as I was jumping out of the plane so I kept dyeing. Had to quit and restart a checkpoint then it didn't unlock an acheivement

Basically I reckon you just have to play all the way through the mission without quitting out and restarting from checkpoint. (this doesn't include dieing)

I dont believe you need to do that to be honest. Some people may be restarting levels from the Checkpoints Alpha Bravo etc which are predetermined, but you'll need to start again from your own saved one by choosing the Continue Campaign option at the top or whatever its called... I'm sure I've turned on and off mid level too.

Yep, that must be it. On the first level, I was getting slaughtered at the bridge so restarted at an earlier checkpoint. Just bailed through it now on normal to try out these skulls (had done the campaign on Heroic) and now the campaign complete achievement for Normal has unlocked. Now I'll have to do it again on Heroic to get the real achievement I guess.

I'm glad I didn't start this on Normal. As much as that bridge section drove me nuts and I almost gave up on it, Normal wasn't half as interesting

                    (End spoilers below)

That was lame and one of my biggest criticisms of the story in 3.

They killed the Cortana in peril thing by making it seem as if she'd just bumped her head again and everything was alright. Something which undermined the drama that had been built up and weakened giving the end any sense of emotion. They could have made it more interesting in several ways.

                    1. Have her a shadow of herself so it shows what the flood can do to even ridiculously intelligent constructs and destroy a main character - gives you a personal connection to want to eradicate them more at the end.
                    2. Have her turn and be consumed by gravemind which makes the final battle harder to deal with (instead of against guilty spark, the chief against a flood-infected/manipulated Cortana isn't something you'd feel comfortable with).
                    3. Or have her go rampant on her own terms post-Gravemind infection, which could open up the avenue for a future game where the whole dynamics change).

As 'nice and familiar' as it was to have her back by the end of the game (something which aren't really compliments when you're trying to tell a good story with regards to conflict) I was baffled why Bungie bottled it when they had all those options (and no doubt more) available to provide the end more emotional punch.

I had the problem where I quite and then the resume game option never showed up on the main screen so I started from a nearby rally point from the campaign lobby, that didn't count as a full level and I didn't get the acheivement for it

                        Oh yeah, and another one.

I was half-expecting Cortana's sudden transference to being completely okay to be a show, and for her to betray or be used by Gravemind at the end to try and kill the Chief (or at least fight against him somehow as a twist). Another point was the implication she was hiding something when Gravemind says 'so that's her secret'. It wasn't completely clear whether he was directly refering to the index or not - something they could have taken that in another direction. A damaged Halo-information filled Cortana with her own agenda for example.

Y'know, I got the basic story of Halo 3, but as for the details I could not really give two sh1ts. I love playing the game and in the end MC and co win out.

That's good enough for me. Too much other stuff taking up brain space for me to try and digest/comprehend every facet of Halo 3's story.

In regards to Cortana and here little speaky bits

Was that Cortana talking? Or Dr Halsey? Or was it Cortana speaking with Halsey's memories? I never read much of the books so I don't know how much of her is in Cortana bar her appearance

I have to admit I didn't get much of what she was blathering on about either, but I'm guessing they meant something to those much more deeper in to the Halo universe than me.

To me she was just speaking in riddles most of the time.

Totally agree on that one. The whole Rampancy thing is such a cool idea yet they've never really made full use of it in the games.

I didn't understand if it was her/Gravemind/Halsey either. It was a clumsy device which was nice in concept but didn't quite work in execution. It probably would have been better to have her occasionally communicate and see her on a covenant holographic display.
